I always start my research pre-Great Recession, and sometimes pre-Great Depression. LOLOL! My first question with a stock is, can it survive the next financial collapse. I have a very long investing horizon since I almost never sell my stocks. TPL did nothing in the 1980s and 90s and lagged the Dow until about 2002.

What turns me off is repeatedly citing TPL as Investors Business Daily's #1 pick. To an experienced investor... that means nothing.
