the Yokohama YK-HTX is the precise tire on which I now have 7200 miles of gravel logging roads and pavement roads miles, and averaging 46 mpg on that 7200 miles.

It is the tire the Idaho locations of Discount Tire national chain recommends for Cross and SUV vehicles. Prior to this, I purchased all my tires at Costco and at Les Schwab. This was my 1st purchase at Discount Tires. I told them that any dirty fingerprints on the steering wheel or door edge or inside top of door interior, and they are not getting paid after the tire install. They understood and did a great job, with smiles on their faces. Totally a first class shop.

for a Subaru, it is not possible to change out only 1 tire if one is destroyed they can clearly explain and is readily clear. So, Discount tire sells an add on warranty that is paperless and is recorded under your phone # that if you need to replace one tire that is destroyed, they pay for ALL four new tires as the replacement fix. I negotiated to half their retail cost on that warranty and paid something like $65 add-on for this warranty contract that is for the lifetime of these 60 to 70k miles rated tires.

I negotiated I believe $220 off their retail cost shown on THEIR computer for the HTX tires. I simply said my price, or I am going elsewhere. And they took my price. They had printed off the initial quote, and then I asked them to turn their computer toward me so I could see their breakdown of the detail which they were happy to do.

Advise if further questions.

I am running the advised air pressure that is noted on the door panel. NOT the air pressure that Discount Tire automatically places in the tires.

I have really tested these tires, driving very rocky boulder filled and tree limb filled logging roads to my July mountain biking high elevation ride location. Approx. 50 miles round trip daily on only the logging road section. The tires are bullet proof imo, and much better than the Toyo tires from a sidewall wear standpoint.

Toyo tires - I am driving on our 17 year old Outback which I love dearly, and have 50k miles on those tires ... they simply are not the sidewall and overall design versatility that the HTX tires are. The Toyo's are great for pavement only, compared to the HTX tires.

I am on 4 or 5 sets of the same model of the Toyo tires on decades of several Outbacks that our family has owned with pleasure and reliability. The Yokohama tires at the negotiated price were approx. 20 to 25% less than each of the installed purchase price of the same size Toyo tires over the last 18 years or so, and we know tire costs have gone up a lot.

Please - consider an alignment check at the same time you purchase new tires. FYI. I would not necessarily do that at Discount tire. I go to someone who is passionate about their Alignment equipment and is anal to the max. about perfection on the outcome.
