Look at his resume. It's not like they just pulled this guy off of the street. If you want to draw in talent you need to pay for it. This is a start up company that could eventually sell out for a few billion. 200 million shares and warrants at a 10 dollar stock price equals 2 billion. And yeah, the stats available on what is out there may be old. But 200 million isn't that far off. It is not like you are going to draw a highly qualified person in for 100 or 200K a year. I know people making that now who have much less important jobs. Ultimately we need to see how it plays out to see if he is/was under or over paid. I don't think people will be complaining if in a few years the stock price is 10 bucks. If in two years it is only at 2 bucks - well there very well may be reason to look back and question it.
