I think the news that they were holding 7B worth of bonds and had a book value of 70$ a share led to the demand.

They sold into the demand. 14M shares traded the day after they announced that that, someone was buying.

I think when they get around to following the money trail we'll find out the executives were the source of the millions of shares that were bought in the days following the announcement.
