Bigworld, Thanks for that article by Rickards, very interesting. I hadn't seen the article so it might be from his newsletter. Every time I lose my enthusiasm for gold, Rickards puts things back in perspective.

As soon as I pay off the last remnant of my mortgage, I'll start accumulating more gold. If the price suppression is coming from China (in addition to the rising dollar), then there should be considerable time to add at fairly low prices, barring some type of financial crisis coming along in the near/mid term.

Waynesville does look like a great spot. With a population of around 10,000 it's a nice size, not too big/not too small. The climate there is considered 'oceanic' (even though it isn't especially close to the ocean), which sounds a lot more appealing than the 'humid subtropical' classification of the Phila area. I've about had it with Phila weather, the humidity was real bad most of this summer, and the winters suck too (Philly people love to complain, lol).

The only drawback I can see for the Carolinas in general is the relatively large number of nuclear power plants there. But that won't be an issue unless there's a big EMP event. No place is perfect, but one of the attractions of NZ/Australia is they have no nuclear power plants.

I was re-watching the Joel Skousen presentation recently ('Strategic Relocation'), and the only 5 star states in the US are Utah and Idaho.
Other favorable areas he mentions are the Cumberland Plateau (which Waynesville is close to), and the Ozarks (where numerous NWO bigwigs have built retreats).

My aunt has a place in the Ozarks (Jasper, Arkansas), so maybe I can head over there if things get too crazy :o) Hard to imagine trying to survive a nuclear war or big EMP event though, so it's probably moot where one lives. Having nice weather and a lower cost of living, plus being near family/friends, are the most important factors, all things considered.
