Look at Musk's other company SpaceX there are two big differences

1.SpaceX is private company - they have made a ton of missteps Rocket's crashing - losing satellites , 8 failures before successfully landing their rocket.. but as Private company it doesn't matter .. they are able to make mistakes and learning from errors and now they are worth 31 BILLION dollars and are about to start sending astronauts to ISS . (this is why Musk wants Tesla private too)

2. SpaceX has a COO President Gwynne Shotwell - Elon is deeply involved in direction and goals of SpaceX but She is the one running SpaceX - she takes Elon's vision and turns it into realistic reality .. she deals with SpaceX investors and clients.

Tesla desperately needs their own Gwynne Shotwell - someone who can sleep in Tesla and make sure their goals are being achieved - also be able to take pressure off Musk and help him set realistic goals.
