The First Water Conference
From: Riggs Eckelberry
Los Angeles, August 13, 2018

Good morning!

It’s actually happening: we’re about to hold our First Water Conference!

How did this come about? Lots of long, patient work, that’s how.

For years now, veteran Bill Charneski has single-mindedly sorted through hundreds of potential water service companies to find the right fit.

Bill hit the jackpot, we think, when he recruited the brilliant Dan Early to help create Modular Water Systems.

And within the first month of operation, Modular Water™ generated its first order, as I explained on MoneyTV that week (click to watch video):

Just a month after the launch of Modular Water Systems, Dan Early gets the first sale of his prefabricated, advanced materials water treatment invention to a brewery.

Why is this a big deal?

Dan Early is an individual inventor with a proven technology for prefabricated, drop-in water systems.
He’s exactly the kind of small operator seeing major demand as “point of use” water treatment takes off… and needs to be part of a larger group.
One reason we appeal to people like Dan is that we like to let entrepreneurs focus on what they do best, and we take care of the central marketing, finance and so on.

And we now know that there is a huge future in the smaller water systems.

The Long Tail of Water

As water treatment moves away from the big central city systems (because they’re falling apart), smaller systems are making up a fast-growing wave of business.

We call this the Long Tail. That’s when thousands of smaller sales add up to a huge percentage of the total.

In the case of NetFlix (see the chart), they were offering titles that even a big chain like Wal-Mart couldn’t keep in stock.

Between 2000 and 2005, the Netflix selection grew from 4,500 DVDs to 18,000, and the effect on the demand of this increase in variety is shown above. (Longtail.com)

We know from industry research that all the growth in water treatment is going to be in the smaller systems at the “point of use”.

But NetFlix showed us that you can’t be a huge company and benefit from these small, niche type sales.

That’s where we come in.

Welcoming our entrepreneurs

So this coming Thursday, 16 August, we will be meeting all day at the La Kretz Innovation Campus, as we did in June for WaterChain.

Much of it will be confidential, but we will be taking videos of the conference, with one on one interviews.

I’m excited about our future taking shape right now, in the summer of 2018.

Have a great week.

Your CEO,

Riggs
