I believe it's because his salary really isn't that high for living in NYC.

$500K after taxes is pretty much cut in half. Figure out the mortgage on a 2 million dollar condo. (10-15K a month) I'm pretty sure he's not renting.

Calculate other expenses and you really don't have much left.

Especially if he wants to save a little. So I applaud his purchases because he already owns a crap load and doesn't need anymore.
