April 17--There is much to talk about. I've now put in 30 tomato plants, including 4 Brandywine in a section by themselves. 19 more to go. I will buy 3 cherry tomato plants and 2 red beefsteak plants from Lowe's. I should be completed by Friday.

I was concerned about Harley the welder. He hasn't come by in over a month. Yesterday he stopped by and brought me 3 packets of Miniature White cucumber seeds, plus a mystery packet of tomato seed. They traveled a long way. The envelope had a Hong Kong address. They left Kowloon by jet and arrived at JFK before making their way south to an address in Mount Holly NC. I will plant them this week.

This morning's low, depending on which TV station weather report I watched, as somewhere between 31 and 37. I left for the farm early to check on the pepper plants in the greenhouse. They were leaning over from the cold. I piddled around and took a look every 15 minutes and still no change. I decided to calm down by walking to the store. When I got back it was around 10:30. A few were standing straight. By 11 it was back to normal. Maybe since I so early I didn't give them a chance to recover. I've dodged the bullet 3 times this season. The last known frost in growing zone 7b is April 24.

I've been digging up the soil in the beds. I'm about half way to the 72 feet in the bed where I will set out the pepper plants.

Saturday I will make a manure run. But first, fertilizer from Wal Mart, and a bag of potting soil for the flower beds. I will start over. Nothing has come up in the past week. The soil simply drains too fast.

I have a few more Brandywine to go in. This one went in this afternoon.

The Nasdaq's third tier, the AMEX can be just as bad, and last but not least, the OTC, it seems, are financial venues that reward failure.
