Repost from @thewhiskeynurse: Knappogue Castle 14 Year Twin Wood

@knappoguewhiskey

Region: Ireland

Nose: Floral, apricots, apples

Taste: I'm a big fan of the 12 year so I was looking forward to trying the other offerings from this distillery. The "Twin Wood" refers to it being aged in sherry and bourbon casks. The 14 is 6% more alcohol but seems just as smooth as the 12. Like the 12, this one is fruity, but not as fruity as the 12. Apples and apricots are up front, with some grassy and floral notes in there. It's a little reminiscent of a rye bourbon. There's a long finish with fruit and sherry. For $25 less, you get a very tasty whiskey in the 12 year. If you want to spend a little more you get a more complex and stronger whiskey. Either way, you can't make a bad choice. I can't wait to try the 16 year.
Price: $65

Rating: 9/10
