What the researchers developed is a polymer that adheres to the virus, blocking it from hooking onto a victim cell in the body.

Both IBM and NNVC are involved in antiviral research and IBM is looking for a collaborator:

IBN and IBM are now seeking collaborations with pharmaceutical companies to develop the polymers into an antimicrobial treatment for patients.

IBM Research and Singapore's Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology Announce New Macromolecule with Triple-Play Action to Help Fight Virus Infection and Drug Resistance

ARMONK, N.Y. and SINGAPORE - 11 May 2016: As one of medicine’s largest challenges, viral infections often escape vaccines due to their natural ability to mutate rapidly and develop drug resistance easily. Many viruses, such as Zika, Ebola and dengue fever, have grown into major global health epidemics with great human and economic toll. Today, IBM Research (NYSE: IBM) and Singapore’s Institute of Bioengineering, Nanotechnology (IBN) announced they have identified a new breakthrough macromolecule that could help prevent deadly virus infections with a unique triple-play mechanism that can also help prevent viral drug resistance.

IBM and NNVC together would be a great collaboration, IMHHO. Will the new NNVC CEO think so as well?

IBM and Healthcare:

In the last decade IBM Research has developed strong research programs in technological applications to biological problems. This program has considerable breadth spanning the fields of precision diagnostics going from the microscale to the nanoscale, micro and nanofluidics, the development of new nanomedicines, and solutions for drug delivery and security as well as sensors and wearables for disease and wellness monitoring. The program's depth leverages IBM's tradition and expertise in micro and nanoelectronics, as well as the research physics and biology developed in the T.J.Watson Research Center, Almaden Research Center and Zurich Research Labs. The Center for Advanced Technology Solutions in Biomedicine promotes a synergistic integration of all the research in biotechnology within IBM, to address IBM clients's needs and benefit society.
