Doctor tied to Insys opioid kickback probe gets prison term

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/doctor-tied-insys-opioid-kickback-223925123.html

Read carefully and you may find the doctor was sent to prison for a "crime" equivalent to willing pre-marital sex.

Gavin Awerbuch, 59, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Arthur Tarnow in Detroit after admitting that he wrote prescriptions for Insys' fentanyl-based cancer pain medication Subsys for non-legitimate uses and committed health care fraud.

The and is crucial because the doctor probably misrepresented the targeted pain but the published story almost certainly makes a libelous claim that itself was once was prosecuted as a felony.

There is no non-legitimate use of a pain medication directed at pain and the publisher was either aware of the false information he was publishing from profession liar - er, lawyers or was abysmally ignorant.

How likely is it the patient asked the doc for an under-the-tongue mist prescription to get his rocks off rather than telling of unbearable pain?

If the doc prescribed subsys mist for, say, a diabetic whose entire gangrenous leg had been amputated and gangrene had invaded his/her crotch, Reuters might describe that as illegal but no intelligent and decent person would IMO.

Politicians from our splendid president to Senator Elizabeth Warren are bleating against such a dastardly deed by a doctor in blissful ignorance of what they are doing.

Obviously it is the street pills supplied by others rather than the fog from subsys that is killing people but will Steve Friess or any given scandal monger or preacher or politician tell you?

Of course not.

Best, Terry
