As for alpine skiing, it must always be kind of weird to participate in a sport in which winners and losers are separated by hundredths of seconds.

not at all weird....

Tonight will be Lindsey Vonn's last chance at an Olympic medal when she faces Mikaela Shiffren for the first time in an Olympic or World Championship race.
Vonn had been the favorite for last night's downhill, but came third behind a masterful performance by Italy's Sophia Goggia. It was the oldest a female skier has ever medaled. She's had a very challenging and grueling comeback from injuries which forced her to miss Sochi. It was touching seeing her emotional response in interviews, and upon finishing. Vonn has 81 World Cup victories, which really mean more than an Olympic medal. She needs 5 more wins to match the greatest ski racer of all time, Ingemar Stenmark.

Meanwhile, the amazing Shiffren won the GS, but nerves and the delayed races due to weather combined to cause her to miss medaling in her best event, the slalom. She will soon go down as the best female slalom skier ever, and is only 22. She has 41 WC wins, and, barring injury, could surpass Lindsey. She won the overall 2016-7 title, and is way way ahead in this year's competition. Some think she is currently the best female athlete in the world.

Tonight's race is the combined, one downhill (Vonn's specialty) and one slalom (Shiffren's) I think Mikaela is the favorite, as her DH is stronger than Vonn's slalom, but am pulling for them to finish 1-2.

Go USA!!
