Thanks Dan, good point. If one is close to surface you do want nearby flag/buoy. If you are down 20 feet then a speedboat is not going to bother you.

So for shallow diving using a shorter hose or only allowing a shorter piece of hose from surface unit will make it follow diver closer. And yes it follows you around, so you are as freer than a scuba diver, go anywhere, but no bulky tank on your back. I only use SCUBA when have to, after hookah diving it is hard to go back, so simple.
