Hi Bigworld, Good wishes to you and your family also :o)

2018 is sure shaping up to be a treacherous year, with land mines galore, the foremost being the likelihood of war with Korea. Then there's the Fed's aggressive QT/quantitative tightening strategy, the teetering petrodollar system, the overvaluation of stocks, the ongoing 'remove Trump' saga, and of course the huge mountain of Derivatives lurking out there waiting to blow up once the financial bubble is pricked. China's banking system is also a ticking time bomb, and the mega devaluation of the yuan is another major landmine.

People have been looking for possible events that could trigger the 'great unraveling', and its staring us right in the face with the North Korea situation. Rickards was recently in a private group meeting with CIA Director Pompeo and Trump's National Security Advisor General McMaster, and based on that meeting Rickards believes that war is basically inevitable. One last ditch desperation move by the US was an attempt to pressure China into removing Kim Jung Un. The US threatened to otherwise block China from using the SWIFT financial settlement system (!) That's about as hardball as it gets, but whether China even has the ability to remove Kim Jung Un is questionable.

Rickards says the problem is that if North Korea already has its nukes on missiles (they're getting close to that ability, but are they there yet?), then N. Korea will launch on the first sign of a US attack, and Japan is the likely target, which would mean a nuclear explosion over Japan. We know N. Korea has both nukes and missiles, but the big unknown is whether they have the nukes miniaturized and 'ruggedized' sufficiently to launch them atop a missile.

If N. Korea has already reached that stage, then it's too late for the US to attack (which is what Steve Bannon was saying). In that scenario, if the US attacks, N. Korea will at minimum hit Japan with a nuke, and could possibly hit the US, most likely with an EMP attack. The longer the US waits, the greater the chance it will be too late to act. If it is already too late and the US chooses to do nothing, it won't be long before N. Korea will invade S. Korea, and the US can do nothing to stop it because N. Korea can just launch nuke tipped missiles at the US and/or Japan. So the US is boxed into an extremely dangerous situation of 'known unknowns' and 'unknown unknowns', to quote Donald Rumsfeld.

My dad was an engineer involved in spy satellites and some missile programs, and he always said that an EMP attack was the biggest risk to the US. Our power grid is completely unhardened against EMP, and the US military is also unhardened with only a few exceptions (only a small group of aircraft and some satellites are EMP hardened). All N. Korea (or anyone else) would have to do is get a nuke into orbit over the US and detonate it at high altitude, and the EMP damage to the US power grid would be devastating.

N. Korea has already put a 'satellite' into orbit in 2016 (link below). All you need is an orbital path that passes over the US, and then just detonate the atomic or nuclear payload. Re-entry into the atmosphere isn't needed. An EMP attack could shut down the US power grid for years, fry all digital electronics, no cars, no food distribution, essentially back to the stone age.
