I was thinking how great and liberating this development would be for 35+ women who delayed getting pregnant

Substitute mothers are already a reality but not mechanical wombs that would relieve women of the unimaginable burdens and pain of childbirth.

Men used to say that if men were the ones who bore children, humans would soon die out. In fact, wealthier populations are always dying out. Somewhat bizarre is that aside from poverty, great breeders of population increase are war, disease and rural life.

My sister used to worry about the mountain gorillas of Rwanda becoming extinct from the desperate circumstances of Rwandans even hunting them for food. I told her the solution was obvious. Make the Rwandans wealthy and they would die out leaving the entire country to the gorillas and other wildlife.

BTW Temple Grandin is not normally termed a kook however people may find her ideas - wildly exotic. HBO even made an excellent movie of her life without the usual Hollywood frills and distractions.

I believe it is not too bold to assert the like of Albert Einstein and Thomas Edison are better known than Temple Grandin but I did have to cut the pages of a very long resident semi-biography written by Einstein in a dusty corner of our local library.

A delightful paragraph said in part [from memory] in Einstein's inimitable style putting the lie to the current conceit that Einstein had no great difficulty with schooling:

- I gladly bear the burden of guilt for having cheated to obtain my academic degrees given the free time it allowed me.

Only Einstein could have managed the incredible feat of being an autistic playboy.
