not powered to show significance, the average trig was something like 160

How the average trig relevant to TG reduction and especially to significance? ...

FYI ... since looks like you are uninformed*

ACCORD-Lipid
- the median baseline TG was 162 mg/dL. Serum TG levels decreased 22% in the fenofibrate group vs. 9% in the placebo group, the difference being statistically significant. The final result did not demonstrate a decrease in MACE (HR=0.92, p=0.32).
- TG >=204 mg/dL (upper tertile) results on primary endpoint: fenofibrate + statin 11.1%, placebo + statin 12.8%.

AIM-HIGH
- median baseline TG was 161 mg/dL. At 2 years, serum TG decreased 29% vs. 8%, in the niacin and placebo groups, respectively. The final results demonstrated no decrease for MACE+ (HR=1.02, p=0.80).
- TG 198-400 mg/dL results on primary endpoint: Niacin ER + statin 17.0%, placebo + statin 17.5%.

Best,
G
