Listening to Geert's presentation, it became clear to me that he is contradicting himself. He claims he is "blindfolded" to the study but then we know he decided to add subject last year to the study because of a slower than expected death rate in both arms of the study. Bottom line is that Geert is not blindfolded and knows exactly how many events took place till date.

Like other "blindfolded" studies, intermediate results are allowed because they can not influence the end result of the study whatsoever.
