$XOM Exxon to operate new oil block offshore Suriname

Exxon Mobil (NYSE:XOM) and partners (NYSE:HES) and Statoil (NYSE:STO) sign a production sharing contract with Suriname's national oil company for a deepwater block.

Deepwater Block 59 is 2.8M acres and shares a maritime border with Guyana, where XOM is the operator of three offshore blocks, including the giant Liza field; XOM says the block will add significant acreage to its operated portfolio in the area.

XOM is operator of the block, with each consortium partner holding a one-third share.
