Wow, How interesting Cork!
I had heard that Chile was a mining mecca. I suppose that these low grade deposits are vast, and the only limiting factor is enough water to process the ore. I have been looking into desalinization methods of seawater, and newer processes involving the use of geothermal heat that enhances the process. If mining companies in geothermally active area (deserts) such as Chile produce their own fresh water, they won't be accused of despoiling the land...as much.
