Well I think of the times I root for something half arsed..
You know like in a baseball game
With a runner at third and one out..
You stupidly wish for the batter to just hit the ball hard somewhere!

Well he smashes a line drive right to the third baseman who steps on third ending the game..

And you think what I really meant to wish for .. was hit ball hard to the outfield, far enough out there where our runner may tag third base and score the tying run.

It's just a slightly different nuance wish, and it took a little bit longer to write down,, but it's a bazillion times better than the other wish..
