Perhaps you don't understand what you are saying.

Your quoted statement from your post #11172 stated (again):


- solar electricity is more efficient and cheap than direct solar in splitting water molecules



The article is saying:


"using solar to power the electrical current used to split water molecules"
rather than:
"since water absorbs only a narrow section of the light spectrum, the direct solar-powered splitting of water is too inefficient"

which means shining a very narrow energy band (i.e. sunlight) on the water! Gee, it does not work too well, imagine that!


Namely, (from those statements) one can even use solar panels to generate a potential between electrodes to accomplish the separation. That is correct and the cheapest, so far!
