The classic definition of a vaccine is an antigen and an adjuvant.

The original vaccines were only what we call adjuvants today without the antigen to direct the attack of the immune system. Such cancer vaccines were the first recorded vaccines. The first proprietary vaccine adjuvant, Dr. Ribi's detoxified cell wall skeletons, were actually FDA-approved and marketed for a couple years to treat surface cancers on racehorses without an antigen. Dr. Ribi's adjuvant alongside an old competitor has headlines with a breakthrough malaria vaccine that that treats a parasitic infection other than viruses or bacteria.

You must have noticed ADXS' antigens are not proprietary at all but rather common hand-me-downs. NEO-Advaxis would change that spectacularly.

You might have also noticed ADRO's failure in trying to treat pancreatic cancer was blamed on an actual cancer vaccine, GVAX, that has been around the block more than an average streetwalker added to ADRO's extra-toxic whatzit and other parts of a witches brew. Somehow it didn't work so hot.

I think you might want to suggest to your big science friend to find a good, extra-strong laxative.
