Some sheep need a shepherd, even if the shepherd does not have their best interest at heart, they will still baa and bow to him, makes them feel wanted.

There never was any "results" that could have propelled this forward, only polished BS, this was a scam in some shape or form from the beginning and if the shepherd was quality enough to inform the flock, you would hear nothing more than the same polished BS.
Perhaps the scam will reignite if Elmer can refill the collection plate but I doubt it.
A living was made from other people's money, perhaps just a thank-you would pacify some of the more rowdy sheep, but even that seems difficult and would not nearly make up for the loss that many have bore the burden for Elmer.
Why complain baa some, why not? It may save some other sheep from a mistake.
