As I understand the reasoning, a conference is not a public enough forum for dissemination of information, corporate news or event reporting, so SEC grants 3 days to report findings presented at conferences. I have also heard that a company must PR the presentation on the same day, but I don't think that is true, or at least does not apply to this situation.
