I thought I had found my dream company on the OTC once. They had manufacturing facilities and products in retail stores that are household names. I was even a customer.

They did some amazing things and even won multiple awards for Best at Show for their products. And they posted financials. I didn't have to go to see their facility.

Unfortunately, they ended up having to do a 1:20 R/S and I immediately sold my position the afternoon they announced it. They eventually went dark and no one knew what happened. I finally discovered that they sold the business and patents to a private firm. It's now a shell stock.

Moral of the story is.... even with financials in hand, one can't know how the business is faring. Certainly, not just by visual inspection. But one is still better than the other.

You can lead a horse to water. But you can't make him get down on one knee and do an Al Jolson impression!
