Yes, what you said is accurate. We have received above normal precip, and the snowpack is major~~~ the ski hill 4 miles from my house has opened for the first time in 6 years.

Initial predictions of southern california getting a lot of precip is still accurate, witness the flooding from SF southward. The bonus is that we are getting a lot more than was thought at first.

My concern is now a very warm storm (pineapple express) that will take a lot of snow off in conjunction with a lot of rain, which has happened farther south to a limited extent, but what hydrologists call a "rain on snow event" is the one that took out almost all roads during the new years 1997 el nino. This year is at least 20 degrees colder than last year on the average; we have dipped below zero several times and my woodpile is having some major damage done to it. But it warmed a little and it is now snowing heavily as we speak. reservoirs are being replenished in a significant way.
