Hi Walterc,
This new metal aims to be a substitute for titanium. Further, titanium is very expensive. Even at one tenth of that price this is stil an expensive metal. In practical applications it's all about 'fit for the job'. If there is a cheaper niobium based alternative available, than this is the one they'll continue to use.
