Famous Eddie's feeds hungry Kmart shoppers

The restaurant, complete with a large dining area, features the original Kmart sub sandwich, back by popular demand. Cindy McDonald, manager of Eddie's, said the subs are available with a choice of three types of meat, lettuce, tomato, pickles and cheese.

"We hadn't had them in a long time," she said.

Another popular item is Little Caesar's pizza, including Baby Pan! Pan!, single slices or medium pizzas. A new choice is the pizza combo, which includes bread sticks and a drink.

Specialties include the Big Order of natural, cut potatoes, which come with the skin left on them. A Bigger Order is a double portion of these.

Hot dog combinations also are available, which include any hot dog, Eddie's big fries and a medium soft drink. The restaurant has both all-beef hot dogs and Eddie's Polish sausages. "The one that made Eddie famous," the Big Eddie, is an all-beef hot dog complete with mustard, pickle relish and onions.

Andrew Lawrence, who works at Eddie's in the Fenton Kmart, said the hamburgers are very good. There is the quarter-pound classic burger, which patrons can order with cheese. Another hot meal choice is the grilled cheese sandwich, or grilled ham and cheese.

The frozen drinks are popular with the younger crowd, he said.

Kids' Meals are available for children age 12 and younger and include a meal, drink and surprise.

McDonald said the restaurant is serving ice cream now instead of custards, and the ice cream comes in eight flavors. "Superman" is a favorite with children, and butter pecan is another popular choice.

For a snack, there are nachos with cheese, nachos with chili and cheese and fresh popped popcorn. Eddie's also features granola bars, bags of potato chips, diet shakes, milk and other choices.

Orange juice, gourmet blend coffee and a variety of soft drinks are available. Eddie's offers hot soups during the winter months.

For shoppers beginning their day, Eddie's also serves breakfast. From 8 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturdays, all-you-can-eat pancakes are offered.

On other days of the week, a variety of selections are available.

"We have good breakfasts every day," McDonald said.

These include the Hearty Breakfast of two eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns and toast. Another choice is the Sunrise Breakfast, which includes two eggs, hash browns and toast.

In addition, there are cinnamon rolls, and breakfast sandwiches on an English muffin, bagel or biscuit. Breakfast sandwiches are available with a choice of bacon or sausage, eggs and cheese.

Famous Eddie's Legendary Food is located inside Kmart, at 18055 Silver Parkway, in Fenton. It is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
