RCKS,
I'd go with a NM theory that some brokerage house wrote the calls and sold them to a captive mutual fund, just to suck some cash out of them.
Big block buys at highs are stupid trades I wouldn't do (maybe . To do it with real money?
There'll be plenty of opportunities to write puts to cover.

Summer / fall high of 1060 ... Let's call it October 1-ish.
There are about 85 trading days 'tween now and then. If we go in a straight line from here to there, there'll be a 50/200 cross somewhere in the next month or so.
Some amount of sidelined cash will go into the market. Seems too small to 'only' hit 1060 considering we went up 100 SnP points this past month or so.
Sounds like a good reason to go clown long real soon now ...

One additional background catalyst for EOM manipulations is pension funds. If a pension fund needs to mark to market, and then set return and inflow rates, having a big spike up at EOM buys them time before they need to hammer their fund sources.
Most pension funds were nominally underfunded before the recent unpleasantness, and it has not become better.
Spikes notwithstanding.
JMO, ICBW. YMMV.

Trend1:
re: "driving me crazy" - so many people have told me the trip will not take much fuel ...
And, no matter which chart, the thing is still going up, and down, and up, and down.
I've given up the 1 minute method yesterday & today. No trend
Method 2 wants me short. Entered at 9:40-ish. Oddly, same entry as on a 30 minute chart.
Method 3 has me swing short. Entered 13-14-15 May. I forget.
Method 4 has me in energy, foreign, and convertibles. Check.
Damn thing's still going up and down. TGIF !!

They have to go up to go down.
Whipsaws are a state of mind, and order placement ...
Have a great weekend.

Thanks. Keep up the good work.

Need selling ... Maybe you should consider posting that you're going long here?
Please?
rr
Tom,
Thanks for your work.
It reminds me, again, of the differences between trading and investing.
rr
TREND1,
Excellent work. Very useful.
Thanks,

I haven't any idea if there was news, or just someone with a million bucks or so who had a happy meal for lunch.
PPT, would be my guess ...

RCKS,
I don't have a clue about Treasuries, other than the fact that the USG is going to try to sell A LOT of them ...
What was spooky to me:
1) alex' buying puts in case the auction went badly
2) headline on CNBC.com about the 7 year at 3.3% auction
3) it was 1pm sharp
4) and the ES just went UP, and SPY went UP, and the volume went UP
and it just blew thru all my trading channels.
Pholly phuck ...
Is yield over 3% 'bad'?
I'm buying UNG.

Now I think you're just trolling for flames ...

LG: Thank you for drawing fire on our behalf for that topic.
If I can ever help you out again, I will ,,,
rr
Actually, I think the answer to your question is: "Probably not."
JO: Thanks. Agreed. Now, can I get 870 on SnP? Please?
OT, maybe:
LG: The oldest profession, as it's said, probably invented fraud as well. Now, there's many more channels for free advertising.
My daughters are 19, 22, and 25. Life is interesting.

given enough foreclosures, prices will come down. duh ...
I love CNBC. Wish they'd go the Babe's route ...

To all,
Did any of you put money into Zeev's solicitation?
We seem a sophisticated bunch.
rr
I'm with you on the timing. This swing / position stuff is starting to bother me ...
"bac looks good here"
Black Humor Warning:
Sorry, I don't invest in penny stocks
aj,
I got the solicitation from Zeev as well. It's just one of a dozen of so solicitations for private investment, 'personally asked', that I've had over the decades.
Thought nothing of it at the time.

I am in awe of your ability to hold down mass quantities of consumables.
First, chocolate chips by the pound.
Now, 12 ounces of whiskey in 60 seconds or so.
But, I don't think you stated 'the goal' clearly. For me, there's a difference between being unconscious in 15 minutes (the whiskey) and going to the bathroom.
Clearly, your mileage varies ...

It's probably illegal to admit in public, but Shiner's my preferred.

Which is why I hate holding overnight, because the 1 minute chart can't help me.
But, if nerves like company, I'm way short too.

Automated systems will always have a mechanical edge, because they do the mechanics faster. As long as trading houses employ people to trade, I have to believe there's a reason for it. It's not loyalty.
Trading houses already have diverse mechanical trading systems, as do scores if not thousands of hedge funds, down to people like us. Given that TA is driven by human psychology, and underlying cash flows like pension funding, trading house robbing of in-house funds, and the like, it'll just look like a lot more people playing the game.
More volatile, as more entities play. Like now.
But, that's just my opinion. And, I could be wrong, and change my mind at the drop of a hat.
rr
Hey, we didn't get any of the details.
Sorry if I missed some. And, you've determined 'she's' a Jessica?
Watching that Bale guy kick some machine ass ... They do look like guys, but underneath. Well, they're probably mac's with Wolverine's structure.
Not that Jessica is, or whatever. It's Friday ...
TREND1,
I'm pleased you're finding the PnF stuff engaging.
Have you ever discovered any substantive differences between charting the underlying versus the 3x?
I find trying to use the 3x charts much too buzzy ... to much noise.
Have a great weekend,

I think the fun for the trading day is over.
Hope I can escape here early ...
