I got the information from KGO Bunny World(?)(10pm to 1am) and the orther guy; I don't know his name but he usually hosts the talkshow from 1am up to 4am. I believe the source is accurate. You know day to pm hosts are totally different animals from late night ones. Far right to far left depends on your belief. I am an owl so stay up late. Dr. Wantenburg(?) got into Bunny last week for their differences through the callers. It is fun to listen to Bunny.
I just heard from KGO, San Francisco Bay Area local news talkshow radio, that FBI failed to make very important material wittnesses or the captured confessed related to WTO terrorist attacks. They suggested to reduce sentence, offer resettlement money with their families, and other very generous offers (new identities and homes, etc.) but the captives did not respond to anyting.
So, FBI tries to toture them to get confession. Whatever means necessary to get the results, even toturing.
Can anybody tell me the news are true or not?

"Post mortems on overvaluation"
If you were caught in this bubble and lost chunk of your capital, please read the following posts: very insightful and in details for valuation.

Mucho tried to defend his position by himself. It is more important but more complicated and tedious for valuation:

I read something similar in Fortune sometimes ago. I was very surprised at a couple who had a million but makes less money than my family. Somewhat forty to fifty thousand dollars at that time. Anyhow they saved money in every way. Mike Burke's gangs call it "cheap" I was very impressed what the couple did. I don't know I live in Bay Area and many things cost too much. Gas price in Pleasanton is 20 cents higher than other areas. A little less than S.F. My workplace is not far from here so price a little less around my workplace.
Also, another thing is to persuade my wife. If the "Millionair Next Door" is Bible, I bet my wife will read in Korean version but in English, heck no. She is not a spender but not much pays attention to wait for sales or turn off lights, etc. I am the one who replaced regular bulbs with fluorescent bulbs (Costco selling them with PG&E rebate at $7 for 5 bulbs), lowered waterheater temp, bought my daughter's elementary workbooks through Barnes&Nobles, etc. B&N gives free shipping if ordered more than two. That is hard part. I hope my children, who are two young now, learn from me not her for living in "cheap" ways-g-.
"Spending less than they make" is really important. Couple of years ago S.F. Chronicle articles run a story that a couple who made over 150,000 were in bankruptcy. Even they didn't own a house. Surprising.
p.s. I read couple of posts in Burke board that a few pulic pension funds of cities or counties are in deep trouble due to this down market. They must invest a lot in high tech. That means we cannot trust the pension funds too.
p.s.s. I hope my father had gave the book like you did. that is wishful thinking. But I don't blame him. I am very grateful that my father struggled to make end meets for his life but due to his sacrifice and devotion to children's education, we are now much better off.

I just teased you.
I try to learn as much as I can. If I am financially successful, it is very good. Whatever result, I try to teach my children how to manage money, balance checkbook, and accumulate wealth. We live in the capital society. I don't think school teach how to do it. Sometimes, it is so complexed that we (I) depend on specialists too much. Then we can lose basic common sense. I hope I learned those things when I was young. I learn many things in G&K and other boards. I don't know if I were young, I could like to learn like techreport. I don't know.
Dear Uncle. It is a good posts. Too many qcom posts at G&K. My small brain has difficulty to absorb all. That is why we(I) need a guru or leader who can lead us or make life easier(g).
When everything is settled down, it may be the right time to look at it.
UF I am just reading Bruce Brown's reply to OZ.

At one point, he mentioned Wal-Mart, Phillip Moris, Home Depot, GE, etc. I can't read it means G&K. However, is it possible that those companies can be one of G&K? I never thought about it except tech sector you know. Thanks in advance. You can post anywhere, I read both.

Bush said us to get on back to our life, such as traveling, going to Disneyland, etc. On the other hand, Ashcroft said us we are in danger of another terrorist attacks. If new terrorist bill is passed, does FBI have better chances to find terrorists or to use the police power to violate more human rights? Which exactly happened in Latin America to fight communists or whoever are they think their enemies.
To Fight terrorists is one thing and to keep our freedom is another thing.
Is this bear market like the others? Originated from The Motley Fool (from G&K)
http://leviticus.www.fool.com/Specials/2001/sp011002.htm
Thank you very much for your generous response.
When I read the posts on G&K, I can feel a lot of pains from the posters including the elder. The ones who started investing in G&K lists early on like before 1997 may have saved their principal and still make a profit. I can see that on some posts. However, I don't see many posts by the ones who invested heavily on the peak time, 1999-2000 summer. I don't know how other people deal with the loss if they hold stocks until now.
It looks like some elder left the board. I don't see much Uncle South or West recently. Do we have Uncle North? I liked LindyBill in the way he is saying. Funny you know. You might read already. It is an old one.

I hope some kind of solution to apply G&K in the bull and bear market come out soon. It is so quite here.

I am lurker for G&K at SI more than 2 years. Your guys, especially the elder try to keep civility and maintain the quality of the forum very well. More than that, it has excellent quality of analysis and technology in details for individual stocks.
Couple of days ago, your summary to Downsouth is very concise and accurate about what is going on G&K at SI. I wonder why you and John Shannon exchanged so many posts recently and before. I know JHP is rude and impolite regardless of how much he makes or made money in this down market. I read his posts at "Ask Michael Burke" before but I did not realize he can be that bad. I don't understand why it is so hard to discuss about valuation or other opinions beyond Moor's book or GG rules. I know G&K board focus on them but cannot expand beyond them?
Today, Thomas M-H summarized very well by saying about Moore' theory should be, "refined, ajusted, corrected, improved".
http://www.siliconinvestor.com/stocktalk/msg.gsp?msgid=16441213
I was chasing G&K and shinny pebbles and now stumbled very badly to bleeding. It was my decision and I cannot blame anybody for that you know. But I want to know what I have to do right in the next time. Still I think the concept of G&K is right but how to apply to valuation and bull and bear market. That is what I want to learn.
I am glad to see another G&K here. I can post here but I cannot over SI. I am not a regular member over there. I hope this thread as prosper as the one at SI.
p.s. You and John Shannon should write poems. So articulated and colorful. John said, "colors of words(?)" or you said. Sorry for my short memory. Sometimes I was lost while reading the posts. It is beyond my comprehension. English is not easy language.
Forget to link for my post.

The steep decline in stock market force people to change their retirement plans or come back from retirement. Sep. 11 further damaged people's lives in various ways.
http://www.siliconinvestor.com/stocktalk/msg.gsp?msgid=16438997
After Sep. 11, I was very suspicious about a patriot game that Media advised small investors to buy or hold instead of sell when the stock market reopened. This person gave a proof that big institutions betrayed us, small investors again.

Ike, I didn't know you still hold those core stocks you said long time ago. I hope you keep selling calls to cover the cost at least.
We all have to deal with all religious or political fanatics regardless of their names. You name it if any religion or political system doesn't have any atrocity under it's name. It is a shame in our humanity but we have to keep fighting with the evils in us. The best way is education and increase of living standards. If people worry about their basic needs, many of them will trade it at whatever costs.
For one thing, people are hard to change the way of life. Japaneses traditionally hunt down whales and consume them. Even nowadays they are unwilling to give up even though whales are endangerous species. That is their tradiion. I don't try to blame Janpaneses here but the article reminds me of how difficult the task of change a society is. Can we (of course including Muslims who live there) change Islamic society to democratic Islamic countries? Every country has some kinds of things against international pressure or opposition like the one of Japaneses. It won't be easy but can't be given up for our humanity?
http://www.siliconinvestor.com/stocktalk/msg.gsp?msgid=16438937
Then how do we know the next time is a bubble or correction if we don't know how we get to a bubble in the first place? what is your opinion about the future of the market?
Here is not an armature but a professional's advice. He is 87 years old. I never heard his name before but it is worthy.

Another somber reflection:
I told you before G&K is one of my favorites, including yours "Ideas" and "Ask Michael Burke" at SI. Now this regular guy, Chaz posted a very somber question or reflection about the fundamentals of G&K. It is worth of reading for investors. Actually, I followed some of their methods and then was crushed and I am still by this down-market. At least, your method of investing always includes some kinds of insurance or protection to preserve the original investment. My problem to your way is how to apply it in a smaller scale(for a smaller amount of money to invest).
http://www.siliconinvestor.com/stocktalk/msg.gsp?msgid=16419304
Also, the other regulars replied in the same painful way. I am in the same situation as TigerPaw's. Sometimes, some of the regular ones hardly accept different kinds of opinions due to lack of knowledge about G&K investing (you need to read manuals and quote it based on the books, etc.)
http://www.siliconinvestor.com/stocktalk/msg_multireplies.gsp?msgid=16419304
Mike Buckley's point is right in terms of when you invested in the stock market and what kinds of stocks you invested. I don't think not all people invested in the period made money if they still hold the stocks. I don't have a proof for my theory. Anyhow in that case, he is very smart, his method cannot be used for rule of thumb.

It is very easy to become a police state. I don't have any good knowlegdge about recent histories of other dictator-run countries. Some lurkers can help us to understand their domestic politics.
My experience in Korea tells me it is very easy. The constitution under dictators was very clean and straight forward as well as very exellent. Usually constitution scholars collect all good things from all over the world and write it and let ruber stamp congress to vote it to pass. Then the one police and protect the consitution never do their job when human rights are violated. Also, there are laws and status for special cases for security purposes and national defence or undercover agency such as CIA. I believe it is exactly happening here when White house propose to increase more police powers to fight terrorists.
For one thing funny, it is all the time Repulicans who request many times historically, who are supposed to be protectors of individual rights or rights of properties, rights of possessing arms, etc., try to limit the basic rights of freedom. Isn't it ironic or contradictary? But they never acknowledge right of human body to woman whether abortion is right or not. They are the one to jail the flag-burning liberals for the cause of unpatriotic. Who likes flag-buring guys other even with excuse of the free speech?
They encroach basic civil rights one by one? It can be a police states. I cannot remember how many civilains were beaten to death by process of interogation in Korea but it happened. As you said, here the police kill first and ask questions later if the victim alive. Maybe better to be dead for the police because they can make a story, not the dead. If you think it spreads nationwide, it is a police states. The code of silence happened in Korea before at national level. It can happen here anytime, especially in crisis such as now.
Also, Sarah's point is right too. Some people fight so hard to protect our rights and democracy in the same way the other fanatics figth for their own agenda, whoever they are, Neonazi or terrorists. Freedom is the most precious jewel of America nothing else. Wealth, you can get it in other countries.
Long time ago, I read an article about chinese's accusing US of human right violations and lists of things you just mentioned. Whenever ou government chinese human right violaton, Chinese fight back in the same way.
Some people can be angry at you when they read a couple of last paragraph. You already saw it here. However, your points are well taken. Outsiders can see things in a different way. Loss of life is loss to anybody. There can't be who's life is worthier than the other's. However in our human nature, we see our lives or someone's life we know is more important and valuable than others. In words, we don't say that but in our behaviors and in our heart. For me it is most difficult solution to resolve Israel and Palestine's problem first. Without it, there will be no peace. Only they can do it but not we. Many jews live here and in powerful positions politically, intellectually, and financially so America hardly get out of helping Israel. I don't see much hope until both parties learn to live together.
People usually focus on their daily life unless a certain event shakes their emotion or threatens the way of life. Until something happens, the political and economic arguements can be intellectual games to many average people. That is a norm. Media becomes a kind of English tabloid after private corporation can take over the media. It will be worse until people realize. Before that we should do something about it.
Thai is a good article. If we study this much for each problem, all world would be much better off. Instead we watch and listen too much to Condit(?). Not me but radio talk shows and TV spent a lot of time on the subject. I remembered I was sick and tired of Lewinsky thing years ago. Still people talked about it when they said bad thing about Clinton. What a country do we live in? Still, TV shows sound-bite for this attacks except for a few ones such as 60 minutes.
Here is another doom and gloom predictions from MorganStanley. When market was high, they hyped instead of cooling off. Now backward. Maybe it is time to buy until no more bad news(G).

She has a green belt in Taekwon-do. It takes 3 years to get it from Kindergarten. Now she is taking soccer class. It is difficult for me and my wife to make all time for Taekwon-do, soccer, piano, and homework and study. That is a problem. I should have daughters older enough like the ages of Ike's sons but not. If my younger one start Kindergarten next year, I need more energy to deal with them. We are growing older and less energy. My daughters have full of energy(G).
I hope Ike to send me a precious secret how to raise children well.
Ike, as you said before, Collin Powell Sec. of State said the same thing, "President Musharaff (of Pakistan) made a courageous decision and he did it with full awareness of the potential domestic consequences." The president made a wise choice for the country under the difficult situation as you said. He, Powell is my man now. He sounds like to be aware of the complication and complexity of the problems we discussed here before. Also, he is acting with reasons not emotions all around us. He is taking time with patience to make a coalation force militarily and financially. Also Bush seemed to listen to his wise advice. If Clinton still around, he might listen to polls and already bomb Afghanistan. I never know.

Also, I want everybody to join me to send e-mails to the White House to deal with all internatonial secret bank accounts not just for Bin Ladin but all possible terroirsts, drug dealers, corrupt companies, and tax evaders. To freeze banks accounts of Bin Laden and his associates here and in some close allied European countries is not enough.
That is another crap. If we help them, we need to set up Islamic democracy not another monarchy. That article looks like somebody's political agenda. Did we learn enough lessons from Iran's Shah? We have to consider in the views of the people not just the leaders. If we help Afghanistan to set a monarchy, people overtake the kingdom like what happened in Iran. We will have to deal with the same thing. I assume You don't like that idea.
I hope full attendance.
Today, I had to drive to Sports Mart for buying soccer shoes and balls in San Leandro. The local store near Pleasanton was closed on Sunday. Many small speciality shops are closed in my area on Sunday. My daughter wants to play soccer. You know children. She wants all full gears right away. She will tell me everyday, I guess, until she gets what she wants up to next Friday's soccer class. If she joins the soccer league in the next season,I think, I will be a full time soccer dad(G). She is taking a beginner's class right now run by the city.
One thing I noticed during driving is more cars around and the parking lot over shopping full. I keep hearing many dot.com jobs evaporate in the Bay Area where I live and now aftermath after attack. It is good to see everybody busy and full parking lots in the shopping mall I went.
I think too much security is another crap. When I lived in Korea, the government kept saying North Korea's threat. Sometimes, it was real but sometimes, the government's craps for their political propaganda, especially worse under dictatorship. Sometimes, spies infiltrated and captured with Korean military and civilian casualties. North Korean commando or spies never left material witnesses so they killed many of civilians on the way if they contacted with them. South Koreans still went on their daily lives as usual except for a little tighter security. Koreans get used to report suspicious activities. They have a hot line to report. They live like that for 50 years.
As you say, we should do the same thing. I don't think we will get rid of terrorists all at once. It will take a long time and they revenge us. We have to learn how to live. For one thing, we need a nationwide hot line so people can report suspicious activities including domestic militia activities.

Also, my neigbour, who works for the local police, left a copy of the note from Police to all of the my neigbours:

Ther have been 23 confirmed cases of people attacked by the Klingerman Virus a virus that arrives in your real mailbox, not in your e-mail inbox. Those in contact...been hospitalized and with severe dysentery...So far twenty-three victims have died...Place it in a...plastic bag or container... call the police... Please pass this on to everyone..."
He is not joking. anybody hear this kinds of news.
Ike, this kind of drop in the Dow Jones is very rare except for the period of depression. Now Bush just found out we are in recession and the attack caused the economic shock. What is your game plan in the short term and long term? Is it right time to invest or hold for a while? I hope everybody cashed before this event and not invested after another black Monday.
I thought if history repeats itself, Tuesday it should be good. But not in this case. That is a reason I cannot make money in investment(G). Once there was about 20% of drop in the market around 1920 after a bomb explosion near the stock market by foreigners and some killed and hundreds wounded. That is the only comparison.
In addition to my previous post, the big guys (major airline industry) can be bailed out but not small guys. Smaller aviation has been hit hard but no help is not seen. It means more unreported unemployeds.

I guess Ike likes this news. Bush lifts economic sanctions on both Pakistan and India after nuclear tests. Their cooperation with America for war on terrorism helped this lifting. Where is the principle of non-proliferation of atomic bombs? Now, how can America say to North Korea(G)? Me, I hope my home county, Korea have nuclear bombs so Koreans cannot be bullied by Japan and China. Foreign policies can be changed but how much change is it justifiable?

Do we live in a socialist country? We just bailed out airline industry due to mismanagement and results of terrorist attacks.
Now according to this guy, we have to subsidize Amtrak because the demand increases. Amtrak is always in red and get money from government all the time.
Can anybody give me an advice how I can squeeze my own government like this big guys? Always the big guys get money from government such as the case of Savings and Loans fiasco and many more but not average Joes. Sad.
