Expect to run into a few clouds this morning but by this afternoon fair skies with highs in the low 80s. B) Red Flag Warning
When there is a high risk of brush fires in an area due to very hot, dry, and windy conditions, what advisory does the National Weather Service issue for a certain region?
Your Answer: Red Flag Warning
Red Flag Warnings are very serious because they indicate dangerously dry conditions, in which wildfires can burn out of control. Even the smallest flame can quickly grow into a raging inferno, destroying many trees and buildings, as well as posing a risk to the health of people and animals in the area.

Today's Forecast
Wednesday, August 3rd, 6:00 PM
Here we go again with some nice summer weather. Expect a few clouds Wednesday morning, with mostly sunny skies in the afternoon. Daytime highs will hit the low 80's around Portland.
There could be some morning drizzle and patchy fog on the coast, mainly to the North. And a slight chance of a thunderstorms for central Oregon later in the afternoon.
The weather for the metro area doesn't change much the next few days, with morning clouds giving way to sunshine, and temperatures actually a few degrees cooler than typical but still warm. Highs hang around 80 degrees, overnight lows in the upper 50's through the weekend.

C) Inland Tropical Storm Warning
If a Tropical Storm is immediately threatening a certain area, but the area is not along the immediate coastline, which type of advisory does the National Weather Service issue?
Your Answer: Inland Tropical Storm Warning
Inland Tropical Storm Warnings are different from Tropical Storm Warnings because the region impacted is not along the immediate coast and, therefore, will not experience the same conditions as coastal communities. Further inland, there is no need to worry about high waves, storm surge, and coastal flooding. However, there are still the dangers of extremely heavy rainfall and powerful winds.

Today's Forecast
Tuesday, August 2nd, 6:00 AM
We'll see some brief morning clouds then mostly sunny skies. High temperatures will push back into the lower 80s. On the coast the morning marine layer may stick around a bit longer. The only issues will be in Southern Oregon and over the Cascades. West winds will bring cooler moist air in contact with very warm air in Central Oregon. Thunderstorms will likely pop up in the afternoon and early evening hours.
The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning because of high fire danger for that part of the state.

B) Emergency Alert System
If a Tornado Warning is issued, which system does the National Weather Service utilize in order to warn people in the warning area of the possibility of an impending tornado?
Your Answer: Emergency Alert System
If a Tornado Warning is issued, the National Weather Service will request that the Emergency Alert System is activated. This procedure requires the Federal Communications Commission's approval, and allows the Tornado Warning and relevant information to be broadcasted via all television networks and radio stations in the area that is under the Tornado Warning. All television stations are required to perform weekly tests to ensure that this system is functional in the case of an emergency. It replaced the Emergency Broadcast System in 1997.

WHOAAA!!! Bank of Korea buys gold for the first time in 13 years...

Bank of Korea buys gold for the first time in 13 years
Dow Jones News is reporting this afternoon that the Bank of Korea has confirmed that it purchased 25 metric tons of gold between June and July of this year and now has gold reserves of 39.4 tons of gold as of the end of July.
The move is noteworthy because it confirms a move towards diversifcation by a large Asian Central Bank away from the Dollar.
While Korea is certainly not among the largest holders of gold in the world, (it ranks 45th in gold holdings according to the World Gold Council data), it indicates another Central Bank's desire to acquire additional gold. So much for the yellow metal being viewed as a "barbarous relic".

My Pico de Gallo with homemade Torilla chips recipes...
I make it before our tomatoes have ripened. Tomatoes are a good
buy in the markets right now.
1 & 1/2 lbs plum tomatoes or any kind, cored, haved and seeded (about 2 &
1/2 cups) I just cut the cherry tomatoes in half and seed them with a
thumb.
3/4 cup finely chopped onions
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro leaves
3 tlbs fresh lime juice or bottled Real Lime juice.
2 tbls minced, seeded jalapeno or serrano chiles )about 2 medium) or to taste
1 tsp minced garlic
1 tsp salt or to taste
I like to make it a day ahead to time, to let it melo in the refer.
You might like to make homemade Tortilla chips?
There's nothing like a warm chip to dip in the salsa.
9 corn totilla chips, cut into quartes, I use the 7 or 8" size.
4 cups of corn or vegetable oil
Salt
In a large, heavy sausepan, heat the oil to 360* F. Use a candy
thermometer to bring up to temp.
Being careful not to overcrowed, and cook until golden brown, turning
once, 1 to 2 minutes. Remove and let drain on paper towle.
Season lightly with salt or Season All.
Serve warm or use to make natchos.
Enjoy!
