Better Step On It
Feb 7, 2025 — The Trump administration has permitted the resumption of a range of global health initiatives despite its ongoing foreign aid freeze.
It’s unclear, however, how quickly the money will start flowing again. Much of the U.S. support for these health initiatives goes through USAID and relies on its staff and contractors, and the administration has been moving to slash the agency’s staff and ordering people working abroad to return to the U.S. (Friday afternoon federal judge Carl Nichols said he would temporarily block plans to put some 2,200 employees on paid leave and to recall nearly all agency workers posted abroad.)
The U.S.’s widely heralded HIV/AIDS initiative known as PEPFAR has also received a waiver allowing some of its work to resume, but some groups that rely on the program are reportedly still not getting funding.
In the memo, the USAID official, Nicholas Enrich, wrote that services that go to addressing childhood and maternal mortality and those focused on preventing and treating malaria and tuberculosis should restart within 30 days. It also says that the U.S. should resume emergency responses to infectious disease outbreaks, such as mpox and Ebola.

Trump leans in on targeting Russian oil revenue as he tries to fulfill pledge to end Ukraine war
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is emphasizing that targeting Russia’s oil revenue is the best way to get Moscow to end its nearly three-year war against Ukraine.
Trump, who pledged in the campaign that he’d broker a quick end to the grinding conflict, in his first days in office has leaned in on the idea that OPEC+, the alliance of oil producing nations, holds the key to ending the war by reducing oil prices.
The president on Friday renewed his call on the group of oil producing exporters, led by Saudi Arabia, to reduce the price of oil. It’s a move he says would bleed Russia of much needed revenue to pay for the conflict and force Vladimir Putin to reconsider the war.
“One way to stop it quickly is for OPEC to stop making so much money,” Trump told reporters. “So, OPEC ought to get on the ball and drop the price of oil. And that war will stop right away.”
Meanwhile, the president’s special envoy to Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, said Friday that OPEC+ cutting oil prices to $45 per barrel could push Russia to end the war.
“Russia is gaining billions of dollars of money from oil sales,” Kellogg said in a Fox News interview. “What if you drop that to $45 a barrel, which is basically a baseline break-even point?”
The Saudi and Russian relationship is complicated, though the countries have cooperated on oil.
But the push on OPEC+ is an uphill battle, according to industry experts. The alliance last month put off increasing oil production as it faces weaker than expected demand and competing production from non-allied countries.
Trump made similar calls on OPEC+ this week during a virtual address to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the annual gathering of world leaders and corporate elites.
In 2016, Russia and other oil producers that weren’t part of the alliance joined with Saudi Arabia and other members of the oil cartel to form OPEC+. Russia and Saudi Arabia are by far the biggest producers in the expanded alliance. That move was largely made in response to dramatically falling oil prices due to U.S. shale oil output. The United States is not a member of OPEC or OPEC+.

Democrat’s bill offers free rent and early release for murderers, child molesters
Mar 10, 2025, 11:00 AM | Updated: 12:53 pm
Washington Democrats are ready to vote on a bill that would release juvenile killers from jail early — so long as they didn’t kill more than two victims, the apparent threshold for Democratic sympathy — and then give them free rent to live in your neighborhood.
Senate Bill 5266-S2 modifies the state’s approach to juvenile sentencing and early release eligibility. Individuals convicted of crimes committed before their 18th birthday can petition the Indeterminate Sentence Review Board (ISRB) for early release upon reaching the age of 24, provided they meet specific criteria. Those convicted of three or more murder offenses must serve at least 20 years before petitioning.
The primary sponsor for the bill is State Sen. Noel Frame (D-Seattle), who said this “is about accountability.” How? Frame doesn’t explain, of course. She did, however, say that it’s not fair for a juvenile murderer to have to wait the current 20 years before being considered for release.
If they’re granted release, the murderer or other serious felon would be provided rental vouchers courtesy of taxpayers. But the bill does not specify for how long rental vouchers could be offered, meaning they could be provided indefinitely.
The bill is based on the now-cliché argument about “brain development” not happening until a juvenile turns 24. Democrats pretend a juvenile doesn’t recognize it’s wrong to murder people until 24, though in Washington they say a 13-year-old can start to transition to a different gender without parental consent.

The Exact Moment Dem Mayor Realizes He Is Doomed
I'll bet you think too that the mineral deal was Trump's idea, but it wasn't. Zelensky suggested one last fall. It is also obvious you don't understand a deal has to be balanced. Nor do you understand Zelensky would not be rejecting any deal just because Democrats pushed him to, but because it's a better deal for Putin than it is for Ukraine. Zelensky is the leader in this deal.
Is it you really don't see the danger expansionist Hitler represented to democratic countries?
Democrats Voted for a Tax Hike on Middle Class Americans

Press Release
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Yesterday, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) spoke in support of the House Budget Resolution before it passed. Leader Scalise slammed Democrats for fear mongering about the resolution, which simply unlocks the process to begin to enact the mandate voters gave President Trump, and also criticized them for voting against preventing a $4.5 trillion tax hike on American workers, families, and small businesses.

CBS News poll — Trump has positive approval amid "energetic" opening weeks; seen as doing what he promised
By Anthony Salvanto, Jennifer De Pinto, Fred Backus, Kabir Khanna
Updated on: February 9, 2025 / 11:01 PM EST / CBS News
With most describing him as "tough," "energetic," "focused" and "effective" — and as doing what he'd promised during his campaign — President Trump has started his term with net positive marks from Americans overall.
Many say he's doing more than they expected — and of those who say this, most like what they see. Very few think he's doing less.
His partisans and his voters, in particular, say he's got the right amount of focus on matters like ending diversity, equity and inclusion programs and deporting those who are in the country illegally.
His deportation policy finds majority approval overall — just as most voters said they wanted during the campaign — and that extends to sending troops to the border, too.
But one key issue looms: Most Americans say the administration isn't focused enough on lowering prices. Inflation was a key reason Mr. Trump won the election.

Trump pushes Gaza plan in meeting with Jordan's King Abdullah II
Washington — President Trump hosted Jordan's King Abdullah II at the White House on Tuesday and renewed his suggestions that Gaza could be emptied of residents, controlled by the U.S. and redeveloped as a tourist area — a plan that could likely only work if the Arab nation agrees to accept more refugees.
The pair met in the Oval Office, where Mr. Trump suggested he wouldn't withhold U.S. aid to Jordan, Egypt or other Arab nations, if they don't agree to dramatically increase the number of people from Gaza they take in.
"I don't have to threaten that. I do believe we're above that," Mr. Trump said. That contradicted his previous suggestion that holding back aid was a possibility.
Abdullah was asked repeatedly about Mr. Trump's audacious plan to remake the Middle East, but didn't make substantive comments on it nor the idea that his country could accept large numbers of new refugees from Gaza. He did say that Jordan would accept roughly 2,000 children with cancer and other health problems "right away." Mr. Trump said he did not know about that commitment, which he called "a beautiful gesture.

Joe on the Crazy USAID Spending Being Uncovered
Oil drillers have said that they have little interest in expanding their rigs or entering new territories. The price of crude is at the sweet spot where everyone is making money. Ramping up supply will cause prices to fall and profits will vanish, just as they did years ago during the shale oil boom. Lots of producers went bankrupt.
