<<"I also think Osama will try to start a world war, which will send things lower">> Maybe he is behind the behinds in NK? what would it take but a few grapes, a little wine, & maybe just 2 virgins??
higher,,,,,,, hopefully<gg>
George-- I'll be thinking 'short' if the mkt goes up or sideways on a big drop in the sox. Probably won't, as short is not my style, but that would be the time,,,
Yes George <<"Market not yet overbought enough for me to short, but that could change
very soon..">> like a real strong drop of the SOX that lasts longer than a close or 2...
Hard to believe any of them,,, but Schab is near the bottom of any list I'd look at.
Yes,, but nas FUTs up now-- tomorrow may be a day for me to lighten a bit & tighten stops,,, SOX is the problem.
Yep Zeev,, & I never saw much of a run, or any run last, that did not have the support of SOX! Worried Bull,,
cannabis -- HOPE you are correct as it is extremely rare for me to play the dark side......... but if I were a cash heavy bear I may be jumping with joy. If certain the 'Big One' was on the way it would indicate bigger profits from a higher level. Just open minded on a mkt difficult for me to read.
Do you think the GE employees on strike know how much these guys will bite off their jobs?? That $200 a year may not mean much in a few more years at this % of growth,,
BEIJING, Jan 14, 2003 (AsiaPulse via COMTEX) -- Industrial enterprises in the
Chinese capital achieved 300 billion yuan (US$36.15 billion) in total output
value last year, up 8.1 per cent from 2001.
The Beijing enterprises also created an added industrial value of 82.33 billion
yuan (about US$9.92 billion), up 8 per cent, said sources at a recent meeting of
the Beijing municipal commission for industry.
According to the sources, 98.2 per cent of the enterprises' products were
marketed, and the enterprises realized 11.95 billion yuan (about US$1.44
billion) in pre-tax profits in the first 11 months of last year, up 10.8 per
cent.
The exports of the industrial enterprises last year were expected to hit US$4.38
billion, up 17.2 per cent, with machinery and electronic products accounting for
US$3.5 billion, up 20 per cent, or 63.6 per cent of the national capital's total
exports, said the sources.
Why do you think <<"Very suspicious..">>? I do not follow boxmakers closely any more but remember this is traditionally the weak qtr and BELIEVE saturation of the PC mkt happened long ago. How many of tho frightened into new boxes by Yardini (for no reason) have a NEED to replace yet? BTW-- my 1st choice is MicronPC and DELL is second,,
LOL!! Sari-- I am much more aware of those regs than most. Suggest you take responsibility for your actions and expect others to do the same. During the mania issues and customers changed,, possibly you did not notice. It was greed and stupidity that caused the most problem and most reason for crying now.
<<"Btw, who "should not be allowed to have real money" ?.....">> 1st in line should be those who look to blame others for their actions or inactions,,, BTW, many of the self-proclaimed gurus lost their butt NOT by the big houses but by DT.Sadly, many are still doing it,, they do a REFI & get a few more bux to lose playing Etrade or whoever-- gotta get it back you know-- and if they do not, (about 90 to 1) naturally it will be somebodys fault, not theirs. Then they will want a lawyer to sue old Etrade as they should have known they were not qualified to play the issues they did.. and their house is gone,, must be the economy then??
ROFLMAO!! The fact is MANY see themselves as a guru when they pick a winner,, but one loser and blame it on,,WS. Some people should not be allowed to have real money yet alone play the mkts. Of course you would find someone to blame if a game Monopoly was lost.Get a lawyer,,, no cash to pay rent at Park Place with 2 hotels,,
Looks like AOL may pop tomorrow,,,,,,, LOL!
NEW YORK, Jan 12, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- AOL Time Warner Inc. (NYSE: AOL)
today announced that Steve Case has decided to step down as Chairman effective
at the Annual Shareholders Meeting in May.
Case notified CEO Dick Parsons and the Board of Directors of his decision over
the weekend.
In informing the Board, Case said:
"As you might expect, this decision was personally very difficult for me, as I
would love to serve as Chairman of this great company for many years to come,
and as an architect of the merger I have felt it was important that I stay the
course as Chairman and help get things on track. However, after careful
consideration, I believe stepping down is in the best interest of the company,
No one wants to take responsibility for their actions. They do not even pay attention to the possible consequences of their actions. However, there is always someone to blame it on. Hey-- why did Clinton allow company XXs stock to go down? Get me 5 friggin lawyers,!!!!!!! Whatta crock!!!
GT -- I too own HYF,, recd J Mauldins 2003 outlook today-- a sm portion reads:
"Finally, junk bonds have improved somewhat over the past few months,
but not a lot. When the economy starts to roll after a recession,
junk bonds ceased to be treated as nuclear waste and earn the
respectable title of high yield bonds. They show a real jump in
value. After the recession in 1991, we saw junk bond funds rise 70%
in the next three years. Interest rate returns and spreads over
treasury bonds are still very high, but sl-o-o-o-wly coming down.
This also suggests that the economy is improving, but still quite
soft."
wahz <<"Now how
is that for being a one man band?">> Well, it sounds like a great effort from a one armed drummer. LOL! Hope you are correct,,,,,
goodluck-- LOL!! Just like Billy saying he always kept his pants up,,LOL!
LOL! Sadly we all need healing days at times. If only I never relyed on M-fund mgrs less 'healing' would be needed. <GG>
syl -- I'll be joining you some time between June 1 & Sept 1. I'm just winding things out now. As for the tube,,,,,, a radio would do the same,, just add a little background noise.
Syl-- if you really believe what you just posted you would never watch another sport on TV or buy sponsors products. The most overpaid people in the world play ball for a living--------- and produce nothing.
Joe-- I agree the inher tax is rediculous in many situations. Particularly sm farmers that have a very tough time in the best of times. Same situation,, huge companies buying the small & mid size guys out due to taxes. Not pleasant.
Like you I have no problem paying fair & equitable taxes, not even paying a little more than my share. But I certainly get tired of hearing the whinning of some.
As for double taxing anything-- it just gets me POed!
<<VBG>> I tell my kids if I leave them anything it is only because my timing was off. Still,, I'll completely retire this year @ 55,,, how much can one reasonably spend in the years left? There are some needy charity orgs. And grandchildren can have a little BRK & kids get some bux BEFORE the tax guy gets the majority. Which one wants the condo @ the shore & who the boat? Giving now we can see their happiness and later we would not know or care. At some point there is little reason to make more except for fun & I've hit that point,, just winding out part of the year. Will play the mkt a bit & build a few houses or apt bldgs as a hobby. Kids & their spouses have set their own careers so all we can do is add a few additional smiles to their lives & be thankful we are able.
C'mon syl---- <<"This
country has lost almost all manufacturing jobs.">> is 100% correct. Now think of WHY! The UNION at GE will strike so they do not pay much (if any) medical co-pay, look at UNION (thats a big DEM stronghold) wages & demands. They still do not get reasonable when their co is ready for BK (airlines). Steel-- the unions CHASED their jobs away by sleeping 2 - 7 hours per shift @ high wages & 13 weeks vacation for some. The union protection of those that deserve fired is great for moral too-- Your boy J6P had no problem paying $40 - $150 to fill the football stadiums the past weekends. If they are in such dire shape, the military is an option. Yes, there are many in dire shape and it is a sad situation,, especially the unemployed that cannot find a job-- but the WMT wants many more stores & the AFL-CIO wants to unionize them too,,,,,,,, union officers need dues money for their wages.
LOL! Syl, Soc Sec,, they can keep mine. Anyone planning on retireing on SS, even as a supplement needs to work a few more decades. As for <<"And for J6P, a dividend tax cut won't even get him that much">> but it is his chance at a job,, either that or moving the keg under a bridge.
SoxFan-- In your time frame I have hopes of the mid-hi 30s. I had a nice load of it and others that were held for many years. They had split adj costs that made one happy-------- they also had trailing stops. The tax man was made happy when MSFT hit the 91 S/L with an avg cost in the teens. The staff at the CPA had headaches figuring a couple cost avgs at all. GE, IBM, MSFT, and a few others all bit the dust and not all have been replaced,,, some may never be completely.
The 23 range seems to be the floor (w/o any unknown real bad news) so I'm comfy trading under 25 in hopes of 2 bux or more but with tight trailing stops in place.
LOL! Those "little buckers" really add up. eom
syl -- you are 100% correct in saying there will be modifications to the plans. Here is hoping both can get together QUICKLY and the DEMs stop looking to 2004 and stop the stupid BS like "class wars". That will be the only way things get done quickly enough to make much of a difference.
SoxFan-- GE has been punished because Jack left & again for Jacks pension. The strike threat, the pension liability, etc all has been involved in taking away the premium they accumulated over decades. It lost its premium and will not get the premium back 100%, T will never get but a tiny amount of their premium back. Not to say GE will not increase but will need to earn it back through earnings. I have found GE a great swing trade for over a year. Seems like it has been good for 10% - 15% at least once each qtr. BTW-- I bought awhile back @ 22.90 and have that in a "HOLD" account. Have ben trading it under 25 often too.
If those in the mid - upper brackets do not spend ( on more than beer & chips) the "small guy" (assinine Dem phrase) has no job. How can you help the "small guy" with tax relief when most under $25K pay zero any way? Why not just give them a case of Bud?
Maybe giving them more than a case of beer........
Joe, A very good TAX Atty with some background in estate planning can set your business up in a way that might make you happy. Do not look for the cheapest but the best you can find. You may want to make your hiers non-voting partial owners now. Children with wifey taking your place. You can keep raising the ownership as the value increases. It can be set so they actually have nothing to say in the business until you & wifey pass away -- and even then (age or ?? Considerations) another (current #2 person ?) acting as Pres. Even with such a set up (much more detailed than it seems by this) the amount 'inherited' could be below the taxable range. Another thought is to have the business insure you for the amount of taxes that may be owed (even huge corps insure their CEO) for taxes,, a $1 - $5 MM policy is not terrible depending on age etc and term (until you plan on retiring & selling the business to your heirs for $1 each. Every state has different & wierd laws but there is a way around nearly every one of them.
Not every company will pay divs (even those making money,,unlike Crisco). Those that do will demand a premium SP and those that do not will see interest in their shares (& the SP) decline IMHO if the plan goes through.
The UNemployed need more than a lousey $3K. The UNDERemployed need even more as they may be on a downward spiral with expenses going the other way..
OK-- he didn't say the consumer was not spending... we must have 2 different sounds coming from him..LOL!
LOL!! My loss on NOVN was about a buck. Sold a little TIN -- but holding most yet... BRKB is beginning to agitate. Close to $2200.00 I load the truck!
S C Dem Cong J Spratt just stated the CONSUMER has not been spending--- ROFLMAO! Maybe he will run for Pres...
Instead of GTW warning they should have just put out a release that they were turning out the lights and locking the door for the last time.
FR-- exactly what the DEMs want,, try and make themselves look good to the low income (even if everything is not quite true) and especially the black population as they feel every black voter they can swing is 2 votes for a DEM. Nothing the DEMs want more than a crappy economy in order to have a chance in the next election. So-- they talk big to the low income that pay zero or next to zero taxes now. I tried to talk to my CPA about it but every time the DEM proposal gets mentioned he rolls on the floor laughing so hard he cannot work for an hour.
My novn S/L was hit this am-- gone.
Zeev-- believe you said you bought amgn late Mon-- saw this
