I will! :) I didn't read where that is were he went, or was going. Or had a link.
Thanks!

It certainly wasn't expect that AJ would just pick up and leave. I totally understand why he wanted to leave. What I don't understand is why he did not set up a board on another site, like the Fool.com (free now). Or at least say that is his intention and inform us that the move is in the works.

Star Trek Opening
IMAX full Digital... unreal!
While I am not a 'Trekkie', I was glad to see my favorite characters. I could never get into the New Generation. No Kirk, Spock, etc...
For those that like sci-fi, this is a great film.
OT - Star Trek
Going tonight for the IMAX opening.
My expectations are high.
Scott
aj - do you consider OTEX has failed the cup and handle formation? I would have thought a cup and handle would have resolved up with the market moving up.
Thanks,
Scott
Because laws are passed by both the House and the Senate, then the President signs it.
Bills start in either house. Each passes the bill. Amendments are always added. Once passing each house, a Conference Committee of Senators and Representatives negotiate the differences out of each version of the bill. Then each House does a final vote for passage. The President signs or vetoes. Signed are now law. Vetoes go back to the floor of each house for 2/3 majority (might be 3/5) to override the veto. If not, the Bill is dead.
So, yes, the Senate can vote on its version of the bailout. Giving time for the bailout to be modified and then sent to the House of Representatives for a vote.

The lease example was from several years ago...
The Prius was the first generation Prius. I don't know the exact year.
aj's and my point is that many do not run any calculations to see if a purchase makes sense. Motor Trend did the calculations on the price difference/fuel economy of a Hybrid Camry vs. a regular Camry. If I remember correctly, $3.00 gas the Hybrid version was about $75 more per month in ownership costs. (not counting resale or repairs) At $4.00 gas now it makes economical sense, UNLESS the repair costs on a Hybrid are ridiculous.

O/T Car TCO
Exactly...
I argued one time with a co-worker who leased a Jeep Cherokee for 4 years at $450 a month. I bought an Intrepid (don't laugh) and at the time paid $495/month for 5 years.
He repeated the mantra, "if it depreciates, Lease it, appreciates, buy it." I laughed because he ended up parking it for 6 months do to mileage penalties and turned it in with nothing. I sold the car after 7 years and actually $3k for it with 176k miles on it.
I am waiting to see on the Hybrids, how punishing the battery replacement is, once it is out of warranty. My wifes company picked a first generation Prius for research. Shortly after warranty was over there were several issues with the powertrain. Repair estimate was 8k. The dealership gave them $2500 for it as it was.
If you have a 3 year old Prius, DUMP IT now!!!! Somebody will give you a great resell price. Avoid the repair issues.

I am still amazed at peoples' 'MPG' irrationality.
Going from a 1999 Buick Regal 3800 v6... 18/26 mpg
considered a new Camry Hybrid, very nice 38/38 mpg (close from what I remember)
ended up with a 2005 BMW 545i Sport/Prem/Nav/Sat Radio for 3k less than the Camry. Even with the stupidly fast 8 cyl., the BMW gets 18/27 mpg. The big engine hardly works at all for slower city speeds. Only when I drive aggressively do I really suck down the gas.
Also, wife drives 20 mile round trip for work in our Tahoe. We get about 15 mpg overall. I looked at Civic special for $189/month lease. At $4.00 gas I think I would save about $800 for the year in fuel. Not worth the extra vehicle. But yet I am seeing a few neighbors and friends thinking they are "saving " money by picking up the econo car.
The EASIEST and cheapest way to save gas money is to combine some of your weekly driving trips to reduce the times you drive by 2-3 trips. You will save more money doing that than worrying about 2-3 mpg difference in your car choice.

V and MC don't get the interest from the cards, the issuing financial institution does. V and MC get the transaction fee from the retailer, less some mark up by institutions who resell the merchant services.
V and MC earnings rise and fall with the number of transactions where credit/debit cards are used.

Favorite Zeev moment...
I think it was in the spring of 2002, Zeev's turnips were pretty good during that year. We were coming up on a market turn, I would have to look back now and see which way. Zeev had said the week before, 'by the middle of the week.'(paraphrase) Then on Tuesday of the week of the turn, a poster asked if he could be more precise. So Zeev said, 2:22 pm on Wednesday.
I thought to myself, no way! On Wednesday I turned on the streamer and just watched... sure enough, the market reversed course pretty much to the minute. Many of the posters joked for a couple of years if his turns were going to be at 2:22 or not.
Scott
Nevo, Merav, Aviva and Jonathan,
Thank you for the information. You have my family's deepest sympathy. Many of us hope you are able to share with the family the posts here this week. Zeev left an imprint on our trading community that may never be matched.
Scott
Zeev will certainly be missed. My heart and prayers reach out to his family.
One of my favorite passages. I hope it can bring comfort
(Job 14:1-15)
14 “Man, born of woman, Is short-lived and glutted with agitation.
2 Like a blossom he has come forth and is cut off, And he runs away like the shadow and does not keep existing.
3 Yes, upon this one you have opened your eye, And me you bring into judgment with you.
4 Who can produce someone clean out of someone unclean? There is not one.
5 If his days are decided, The number of his months is with you; A decree for him you have made that he may not go beyond.
6 Turn your gaze from upon him that he may have rest, Until he finds pleasure as a hired laborer does in his day.
7 For there exists hope for even a tree. If it gets cut down, it will even sprout again, And its own twig will not cease to be.
8 If its root grows old in the earth And in the dust its stump dies,
9 At the scent of water it will sprout And it will certainly produce a bough like a new plant.
10 But an able-bodied man dies and lies vanquished; And an earthling man expires, and where is he?
11 Waters do disappear from a sea, And a river itself drains off and dries up.
12 Man also has to lie down and does not get up. Until heaven is no more they will not wake up, Nor will they be aroused from their sleep.
13 O that in She´ol you would conceal me, That you would keep me secret until your anger turns back, That you would set a time limit for me and remember me!
14 If an able-bodied man dies can he live again? All the days of my compulsory service I shall wait, Until my relief comes.
15 You will call, and I myself shall answer you. For the work of your hands you will have a yearning.

(seldom poster and avid lurker who did have the pleasure of a few conversations with Zeev)
The way I play it depends on how ITM the calls become. If I want to keep the stock, and the options are just barely ITM, then I wait until the Friday of expiration and buy the options back for pennies, since all the time premium is gone.
If a stock rises and is well ITM with the options I sold, then I let the stock get assigned. I won't chase it.
Scott
Jim...I did the DNDN in my SEP IRA...thanks for the post.
Scott
XRM is a current CC position.
Beaten up high dividend payer that is bouncing around 5:00. On my third round of selling $5 calls when they go just ITM...today now OTM
Small % play for now.
Discouraged is right. I was doing what my original mentor taught; look for stocks with very premiums and sell just OTM calls. for 30-60 day expiry. Hit and miss proposition since these were high beta stocks, and it was 2001-2002, and the high betas were getting killed. I just started dabbling with selling CCs on a few of my high dividend yield core holdings.
Since I have 2, soon to be 3, jobs (my own small companies), I may not post everyday. But I will contribute what I can.
Scott
Joe,
I would like to join you. I have only played with CCs occasionally, but I am very interested in learning and eventually helping point out possible plays.
Is you goal to hold a stock and repeatedly sell OTM calls? Or you do want to sell primarily ITM calls and called out, looking for hte next high premium stock?
My guess on this board dying is the low volatility until recently, in the market. Low volatility means lower premiums.

I will post a caveat...I wear super thin stretch gloves. And then it takes a second for the touch to respond.
However I think it is a mute point...almost all gloves render most cell phones unusable.

I have an iPhone...and love it! And I am not an Apple fan.
The phone does work with gloves on, but it is not as sensitive to your touch. So you would probably get frustrated.
The last phone I could use with gloves was my ancient 2" thick MOT flip phone. gggg

We just switched our Advisor accounts to Schwab. If the account is large enough, an individual can get $10-11 trades.

NDE and CCRT
First question will be fundamental (lean toward TA for entries and exits), what is the exposure in % of portfolio in subprime mortgages? Percentage close to NEW and LEND? If so probably more downside.
NDE
Below 200 Daily and Weekly MA
Sell off has rising volume
Next support is around 21.00 back in 03
Better support is at 16.00 from end of 02
If we get a low volume bounce you should have a possible short/put opportunity
CCRT
Testing STRONG support around 25.50/25.70 area
More confirmed downtrend with 3 lower highs, and this break of support would make a lower low
I like the odds of short/put position on CCRT better than NDE
Just my humble opinion! Do your own research and trade on your own conclusions.

XM is not going anywhere that GM does not want it too...
Too lazy to look up now, but GM is a significant shareholder.
It's time for Sirius Satellite to make a bid for XM Satellite Radio (XMSR - commentary - Cramer's Take), he said.
Didn't lose...got out before the plunge. Was out by early 2005. Yields were dropping and redeployed to other trusts.

My worry was that if they miss the $5m thresh hold they might simply liquidate before a decent return can be collected on the royalties.
I hold several other nat gas royalties and sold LRT long before the recent plunge.
thanks
caddman
Are you sure about LRT's income potential with Jay Field?
They are in danger of liquidating. I exited over a year ago. With the hurrican damage taking a lot of production out and loss of royalties, end of life on properties, and no current monthly distribution, the risk is very high.
Read from the recent "No May distribution announcement."
The Trust Agreement provides that the Trust will terminate in the event that the net revenues fall below $5,000,000 for two successive years ("the Termination Threshold"). As a result of the aforementioned damages to production facilities for properties in which the Trust has an interest, revenues for 2006 may fall below the Termination Threshold. It is therefore possible (depending on the timing of repairs, future production and drilling activities, market conditions, recoupment of unrecovered capital costs and other matters) that in 2006 Royalty income received by the Trust may be below the Termination Threshold. If Royalty income falls below the Termination Threshold for two successive years, the Trust would terminate. Upon termination of the Trust, the Trustee will sell for cash all the assets held in the Trust estate and make a final distribution to unit holders of any funds remaining after all Trust liabilities have been satisfied. However, whether the Trust's 2006 net revenues are above the Termination Threshold will depend on the timing of repairs to damaged properties in which the Trust has an interest, oil and natural gas prices for 2006, timing and level of hydrocarbon production, the level of capital expenditures, and other operational matters as well as administrative expenses of the Trust. Therefore, there can be no assurance that the net revenues of the Trust in 2006 will be above the Termination Threshold. There are numerous uncertainties inherent in forecasting projected net revenues for 2006 as certain of the Trust's properties are near the end of their productive lives. See "Estimates of Petroleum Engineers" in the Trust's 2005 Annual Report on Form 10-K.

LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) - Autodesk Inc. late Thursday reported its quarterly profit nearly doubled as revenue surged 33% on strong demand for its design software, and increased its outlook for the year, sending shares sharply higher.
In our region, all the dealers struggled to meet quota, some missed. I would have never thought there was enough demand in other places to push revenue up 33%.
