e.Digital Named a Finalist for UCSD CONNECT Most Innovative New Product Award; MXP 100 Digital Audio Player Chosen As Finalist in Hardware Category
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 18, 2002--e.Digital Corp. (OTCBB:EDIG) today announced that the company has been selected as a finalist for the 15th annual UCSD CONNECT Most Innovative New Product Award in the hardware category.
e.Digital's MXP 100 digital audio player and voice recorder was judged for its integration of innovative technology developed by a San Diego company. To be eligible for the award, the product must have come to market within the calendar year spanning Sept. 14, 2001 to Sept. 13, 2002.
The top three finalists in each category were announced Oct. 16 at the nominees' reception held at the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art. A total of 21 finalists were selected out of entries from a record 130 companies. The winners in each category will be announced at the UCSD CONNECT MIP Awards Luncheon scheduled for Dec. 11.
Since 1988, the CONNECT MIP Awards program has served as a benchmark for predicting the region's most successful emerging technologies. From early stage biotechnology companies to the first products generated by the region's telecommunications boom, the awards program has been an indicator of the industries and technologies that have fueled the San Diego economy.
The MXP 100 is unique in that it incorporates e.Digital's Music Explorer, VoiceNav(TM) and IBM Microdrive(TM) to answer consumer demands for an easy-to-use digital music player that doesn't sacrifice quality, capacity or portability. The sleek, extremely compact digital music player and voice recorder features, for the first time ever on any portable device, voice navigation command capability that gives users the option to move between their audio files and music tracks by the power of their own voice. The voice navigation capability is completely user-independent and does not have to be trained to understand a user's voice; just "say it to play it."
According to Atul Anandpura, e.Digital's vice president of research and development, "Our nomination focused on the MXP 100's VoiceNav speech recognition user interface, which makes finding and selecting music tracks quick and easy. When navigating among hundreds of songs, it can be difficult to locate tracks using a traditional scroll wheel. VoiceNAV speech interface provides user independent speech recognition technology, which is very easy to use, as it does not require any voice training. The MXP 100 is an innovative player that provides a glimpse into the future of consumer electronics and digital audio devices."
e.Digital integrated its MicroOS(TM) 2.0 audio file management system with Lucent's voice recognition engine to produce a natural speech interface for portable devices. Drawing on e.Digital's expertise in low power, small footprint applications, the company was able to support more than 100,000 words and names in the MXP 100, plus flexibility for English words or sounds not in the dictionary.

80% of the current retail stores selling EDIG powered products have been added after the fiscal periods reported in the soon to be released 10K and 10Q reports.
The 10K Annual Report only covers the 12 month period ending March 31, 2002. It does not reflect the recently added 3,251 retail stores, most of which will begin selling EDIG products in JULY, 2002.
The 10Q Quarterly Report will be released around August 8, 2002 and covers the quarter ending this month June 31, 2002. The next 10Q is also too early to reflect the increased retail exposure EDIG powered products are beginning to get.

EDIG FAQ UPDATE 6/12/02
Q: Why did the Company sell more S-3 shares last week? How will e.Digital fund the further ramp-up of its branded products?
A: Due to the timing of scheduled payments for and the increasing demand of our TreoTM and OdysseyTM product lines, 2,105,264 shares were placed at 0.38 dollars on June 7, 2002. e.Digital is currently negotiating with other financial sources to obtain future financing on more favorable terms. With increasing sales and the use of inventory and receivable financing, the Company is working to avoid future block placements of shares at the current prices. Management will address this in detail during the next webcast scheduled to be held within the next three weeks.

GoodGuys has confirmed Treo 15 scheduled to arrive at distribution wharehouse on June 19.

iRiver will most likely be the first to market with their device in late July. Other DataPlay-enabled devices will follow. We feel confident with the latest information from our OEM device partners to the degree that we have
reserved over 2500 TV spots to begin our own marketing campaign in August.

Robert,
After listening to the last Conference Call, it was my understanding that there were to be new major retailers announced for EDIG products this quarter.
Will there be such announcements this quarter?
TREO 15 Gig $299 in The Good Guys by 5/23. I was in a Good Guys store today and the salesman said the TREO 10 (3,000 songs) has been a top seller and that the computer shows they have hundreds of the newer TREO 15's on order with an expected arrival date of May 23. The salesman said the Samsung MP3 products are the only real competition for the EDIG MP3 players. For example he showed the new Samsung YP700 with 128 MEG for $229 with about a 20 song capacity. He explained that flash cards are required if you want more than 20 songs because there is no hard drive. The salesman said customers are seeing that the onboard hard drives that EDIG players offer is the way to go. They have dropped the Sonic Blue stuff except for the new "Riot" ($399) which they lauged at because of it's huge housing and the reputation SonicBlue products have in terms of the high rate of defects and returns. I asked where all the other SonicBlue "Rio" stuff was and they said it was dropped partly because it had been mostly coming back as returns and was considered to be too unreliable. The Conference Call last week gave estimated that EDIG products are seeing a 2% or less return rate. I asked the salesman if EDIG products were coming back and he said "They don't come back."

Thanks for your interest. Looking at the time table for those units actually being available in store will be closer to the middle of the month of May. Just prior to the end of the month of April retailers will be identified on our website. If you have any other questions or concerns please contact me directly.

Hi,
When do you expect DataPlay/Evolution devices to be in the stores?

THE FRONT PAGE OF AOL has a link to: PC World's 5 Top Rated MP3 Players and it Includes EDIG MXP 100. The America Online "Welcome Page" (4/8/02 10 30PM) features a link to PC World's 5 Top Rated MP3 Players. And EDIG's MXP 100 is included in the five!
It's in their "Gadget Guide"
http://aolsvc.pcworld.aol.com/computercenter/aol/article/0,aid,75783,00.asp
EDigital MXP 100
• No built-in memory
• CompactFlash or 340MB IBM Microdrive
• Supports MP3, WMA, WAV (voice recording only) formats You can call up songs and navigate the menus of the MXP 100 hands-free with voice commands. This player also includes voice recording and lots of storage, and it produces clear sound, but it's difficult to use. The software is confusing, documentation is sparse, and the menus are long and involved. It uses a CompactFlash card, so if you have a digital camera that uses CF, you have a twofer on the media. Thank you for your reply. We are scheduled to receive royalties on each product. We expect Samsung, Toshiba, EASTECH, Evolution and other OEMs/ODMs to bring products to the market based on e.Digital technology. The OEMs/ODMs determine the release dates of their products. OEM/ODM and e.Digital-branded DataPlay-enabled products rely upon the delivery of DataPlay technology to bring these products to market, the first of which are expected to be released this spring.
Please call me at your convenience if you would like to discuss this

Evolution should be the first to market with their music player around mid April (see http://nowevolution.com/products/EV-500MDP.html). At that point, we will begin to sell media from our web site. Perhaps what you heard was that mastered music will be rolling out in early June. See http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/bpihw/20020319/en_bpihw/zomba_taking_initial_spin...

Thank you for your reply. We are scheduled to receive royalties on each product. We expect Samsung, Toshiba, EASTECH,
Evolution and other OEMs/ODMs to bring products to the market based on e.Digital technology. The OEMs/ODMs determine the release dates of their products. OEM/ODM and e.Digital-branded DataPlay-enabled products rely upon the delivery of DataPlay technology to bring these products to market, the first of which are expected to be released this spring.
Please call me at your convenience if you would like to discuss this further.

These new products are actually on the road to us as I type. We expect to receive them by no later than the end of next week (3/8/02). Once we receive them into our warehouse, it will take 2-5 days for stores to have the
product available. You are welcome to go in ahead of time and place your order though. Local stores like Emeryville should get the product rather quickly since they do receive shipments almost everyday.
I hope this is of help to you, please let me know if there is anything else
I can help with.
Thank you,
