MH - per the article, people are lining up with their $10s in hand - since the players are freebees in first class, the article is referring to coach passengers, who apparently are finding their way past any inconveniences.
Doni - agreed, my point was that the Cornice doesn't appear to be a reworked Dataplay disk (as someone had suggested - apparently some ex-Dataplay employees are now at Cornice), as those disks only had write-once capability.
callmeal - doesn't sound like it, the dataplay discs were write-once discs, very similar to CD-R media. The Cornice units sound more like a variation of the Microdrive to me.
Lickily - my 'buys' last week were at bid price, it's possible that the .57, .58 trades were limit buys. Orygun experienced the same last week.
Orygun - good luck to ya, I finally got a 4500 share chunk after the smaller blocks.
Interesting - my 5000k order is being filled in very small chunks (350 and 150 so far) at bid right now.

And now a 53k buy - nice action.eom
Sentinel - agreed, cow spots.
Low volume may be due to some banks (all?) being closed today, I was thinking of wiring some funds into my scottrade acct., then realized that I couldn't. Oh well, at least i picked up a few hundred last week at .39

Nice gif, see any of the recent shows?
Re content protection:
While I don't remember the source, my understanding was that when power ran out (or was disconnected), the contents would be cleared (or not accessible) - this could be done in a manner similar to software that is distributed for try-outs with an expiration of its functionality, in this case the functionality disablement (is that a word?) being triggered by the absence of power or attempt to tamper. Tamper resistance could be achieved by a simple mechanical device triggered by cover removal, IDE disconnect, etc. Whatever the method, it seems to have satisfied the folks at FOX.
Marc - re cc, some highlights:
Apple's 1.5 year exclusive on 1.8" drives has ended, many (as yet unannounced) oems supposedly very interested as opposed to their interest level in the 2.5" oddysey form factor - the 1.8" form factor will take essentially no re-engineering to implement.
Revs for Q1 '04 will be at least similar to Q4 '03 depending on when auditors recognize softeq/hp payment for initial delivery announced today. They foresee Q2 '04 as being very good with Eclipse delivery - they have future guidance from eclipse on 2nd, 3rd, 4th gen. products.
IFE project to launch in next few weeks, in addition to the current unannounced airline, almost daily inquiries from airlines, who find their non-embedded solution very cost-effective/appealing.
Moxa - this is a very telling indicator of how much impact the discussions on this board have on the company's pps - basically none.

20% to 15% cap gains - I believe that's long term (which will save me ~10K in taxes on the rental prop I'm getting ready to sell), don't know about short term.
Milplease - the music CDs in the DVD section are either "DVD Audio" or SONY's 'super audio'. The 'DVD audio' format is 5.1 sound - per the link below, 5.1 'ripping' is on it's way (see near the bottom of the page under 'yet to start'):

Also, the latest windows media player (V.9) is capable of 5.1 playback:

cassandra - I did a screen capture of the musicmatch recorder option dialog box - as you can see, there is an "artist" and an "album' option(which can be deselected, but these are the defaults).

Regarding the stored music collections, Music Match, has been one of the top ripping programs out there for a while, so a significant percentage of potential odyssey customers will have already formatted their collections in the required format:

William Wallace:
re: "How many of you have changed your car stereo after buying it if it didn't break?"
On practically every car I've ever owned, the first thing I've done is replaced the crappy factory system with an upgrade, and I don't think that I'm unusual in this respect. Bear in mind that up until the last couple of years, most cars have come equipped with a cassette player - when was the last time you used a cassette tape?
Sent - that's what I was thinking, regarding the MXP covers.
cassandra - I have no problem believing that Samsung (and thus Digitalway) outsells SonicBlue, etc.
bbgold - the Warfield is in downtown San Francisco, doesn't have a parking lot of its own, although there are several private lots in the area.
greg s - unfortunately, I was not able to get tix, nor was anyone that I know. Warfield's going to be a mob scene friday nite.
The Other Ones are now officially "The Dead" - playing at the Warfield on 2-14-03.
sky - you need to load some tunes onto the mxp before giving it to it's lucky recipient, DON'T YOU?
50+ - voice recognition software is independent of the interface platform design (ie. voiceNav) - the mxp (which clearly has voiceNav) uses Lucent voice recognition software.
danl - per the following site, TI was to have an mp3pro decoder chip available in Q3 of 2002, so it's possible that upcoming edig players may utilize this chip, if they haven't started working on them already, and it could be that TI's license would be sufficient:
http://www.mp3prozone.com/products.htm
tender - yes, I don't doubt that there are better sounding codecs, and if and when they are adopted, hopefully edig will be able to capitalize. I just see mp3 as very entrenched in a generation of users, and any new codec is going to have to offer very significant advantages in order to become adopted.
Tender - re:SHN files
I've used shn files intermittently for almost a couple of years now and see them and mp3 files as totally different animals. Main difference is that you can't play a shn file, it has to be converted back to a .wav file - thus you either have to use up tons of space on your hard drive, or burn it to an 80 min. (max.) cd - as a result, you can't store days worth of music on your computer or on a data cd the way you can with mp3 files. This would not appeal at all to those that have purchased portable mp3 capable cd players, where 1 cd will play for hours (eg, I was able to drive to Lake Tahoe and back (8-9 hrs) without ever having to change the mp3 cd in my in-dash car player). As far as quality, I can only tell the difference in .wav cds burned from shn files (vs. from mp3 files) on a moderately high end stereo, and any purist who needs the absolute best resolution is a)going to go out and get the best possible source (ie. the real CD, if available), and b)they're not going to have any interest in mp3s to begin with. I see shn as having an appeal limited to those purists looking for material that's just not available through the traditional outlets. Also, it's just more time consuming to download shn files. Personally, what I have done with downloaded shn Dead shows is to burn a wav cd for my home stereo, then convert to mp3 (at a high quality sample rate) for computer storage and then burning multiple shows onto 1 mp3 cd for the car.
bomba - saw a review of the new sblu player on techtv yesterday - while they didn't pan it, they weren't overly thrilled with it either, it's still bigger/heavier than ipod, smaller display - doesn't have o-1000 features/look, so pretty sure they're not an edig oem.
packers- believe portalplayer makes the ipod.
Dec. Vogue - old news?:
Don't know if anyone's mentioned, but the current Vogue (the one with Halle Berry on the cover) has a Chrysler multipage ad insert with a practically lifesize picture of the BeoSound 2 player (shares the page with a picture of the new Chrysler Pacifica). Sorry if it's been mentioned/discussed.
Question - is Virgin Airlines considered a US carrier (or British)? Would seem a logical choice considering they have their foot firmly planted in entertainment and their flights are a)long distance, and b)frills laden.
JOBS/jq - I'm getting set to replace the in-dash unit in my old pathfinder and I'm planning on getting a single cd/mp3 player (a single mp3 cd will take me to Lake Tahoe and back), wish edig had something ready along those lines, but not waiting, plenty of units available under $200.
bosox - disks, go to compusa.com and type in dataplay in the search field.
bosox - and per SINACULL on the RB board, dataplay disks are now available on the compUSA site (which I verified).
trend -
"Digitalway has experience (sic) in manufacturing various products for various buyers and customers from all other countries."
Sounds like growth involved more than just mp3 players.
marc4 - pr from earlier in the year states that the MTV/dataplay player is an edig design. Also, Classic is CircuitCity brand that used edig design (treo) for a previous product. In summation, highly unlikely that Classic player would not be edig design considering the identical look of the Classic and MTV players.
