Votorantim Cimentos has the largest line of cements on the Brazilian market. Its massive investment in research and development results in an offer of products for technical mastery and a wide range of applications. There is always a product to meet specific needs in jobs of any size.

Learn more about the stages of cement production:

1) PRE-HOMO: The cement manufacturing process begins with the mining of limestone, the main raw material of cement. The limestone is mined and stored in the pre-homogenization yard. In this stage, the first samples are collected to be analyzed in the Quality Control Laboratory. The chemical composition of limestone is determined (calcium, silicon, iron and aluminum).

2) RAW MILL: In the raw mill, the limestone is ground with clay and specific additives (such as iron ores, aluminum ores or co-processed substitute materials). Clay is a product rich in silica, iron and aluminum, which are essential to the quality of the cement. The final product consists of very fine-grained powder, hence the name raw meal. A filter installed in the mill prevents emission of dust into the atmosphere. The meal is stored in special silos until it is sent to the rotary kiln.

3) CLINKER PRODUCTION: Prior to being placed in the rotary kiln, the meal passes through the cyclone tower to be heated by the hot gases coming from the underlying furnace. When the meal reaches the rotary kiln, it is already at temperature of around 900° C, helping to reduce power consumption. Inside the kiln, temperatures reach 1,450° C, thereby producing clinker.

4) COOLING: To finalize the clinker production process, the material is cooled in the cooler and the temperature is reduced to less than 200º C. A filter is installed at the output of this device, releasing the cooling air into the atmosphere free of pollutants. A new sampling is performed for chemical testing in the Quality Control Laboratory. The clinker is transported to the hoppers, which store the other raw materials that make up the cement: gypsum, limestone and pozzolan or slag. The exact percentage of each product depends on the specification of each type of cement.

5) CEMENT MILL: The blend continues on to the cement mill, where all the components are milled until they reach the optimal particle size, resulting in high quality cement.

6) CEMENT SHIPMENT: After grinding, the cement is stored in silos to be bagged and marketed.
