If the boat is not being scrapped (its moored at a scrap dock or scrap pier although the Korean/English translation may be inaccurate but I personally don’t believe so) (opinion), then the boat is in need of a refit to get its classifications back for insurances for the hull, the employees and contractors, and the customer that leases the boat for exploration and mining. It appears the boat is at the wrong location for that type of refit. We don’t know anymore because they turned off their vessel AIS

I would wager cutting torches and water blasting cutting tools are at work.

Just my opinion

That data is old. The ship hasn’t reported through AIS on other marine tracking websites in over 40+ days and these other websites show the vessel WAS parked at that scrap dock.

Try Googling other marine AIS location websites and see what you get.

The data you referenced shows 59 dats ago it WAS moving. Obviously it isn’t anymore, the ship may no longer exist. It’s very odd that the AIS is turned off as it stayed on over a year while the vessel sat off the coast of Manzanillo, Mexico but get turned off once the vessel arrives in Korea.

They shut the vessel AIS off 57 days ago and the ship was reported to be docked at a scrap facility. ALLSEAS ( owner of the Hidden Gem ) still shows it on their website. The boat has to be in pretty bad shape after sitting almost abandoned for over a year off the west coast of Mexico at Manzanillo

The drilling ship must be inspected in dry dock Twice every five (5) years, with not more than thirty six (36) months between examinations.

That ship has to go back to dry dock before they try and go harvesting for nodules next year.

Expect heavy dilution to pay for the dry dock inspection reclassification certification for insurance.

The boat is sitting, rusting away. It isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. I suspect the boat will have to go into dry dock and be inspected and refitted for its classifications. The possibility commercial use of that boat diminishes everyday it sits. Certainly if they intend for the boat to move through water under its own power, it will certainly need dry dock. One can assume correctly the thrusters and running gear to be completely covered in marine growth.

Actually it's older, same page shows owned by Petrobras in 2009. They would have purchased 10 or 12 years before and used for off shore oil exploration. Ship is 20 or more years old which is with ocean craft close to or at end of life.
Also they say they have 20 million in cash and another 25 in credit facility, but say they need 60 to 70 to submit application for permit next july. Of course they will also have payroll, insurance, maintenance, repairs, fees, fuel, legal, etc...

I would think having them miss the deadline would be a good thing for TMC. Since no new regulations were put in place TMC should know how to fill out the mining application.
