History
Cybex's 27-year history in the medical industry - unique among fitness equipment manufacturers - is evident in the level of attention given to biomechanics and proper body positioning. Cybex entered the fitness equipment market in 1983 with the purchase of Eagle Strength Systems and quickly established itself as a premiere supplier of variable resistance strength systems to health clubs.
Trotter, Inc. was founded in 1973, when engineer Edward Trotter built a motorized treadmill for his personal use to help prevent cardiovascular disease. He went on to produce custom units, primarily for institutional use, until demand spurred large-scale manufacturing.Cybex merged with Trotter, Inc. to form Cybex International in May of 1997. A year after the merger, the combined Cybex-Trotter acquired Tectrix Fitness.
Tectrix was established in February 1988, and within a year came out with a revolutionary stair climber called the ClimbMax. After turning the market upside down with ClimbMax, Tectrix engineers turned their attention to making an exercise bike. In 1993, the BikeMax family of exercise bikes was introduced to great acclaim.
