MORE PLATINUM STUDIOS: Platinum Studios is focused on adding titles and expanding their library, with the primary goal of creating new franchise properties and characters. In addition to in-house development and further acquisitions, they are developing content with professionals outside the realm of comic books. They have teamed up with screenwriters, producers, directors, movie stars, and novelists to develop entertainment content and potential new franchise properties. Platinum Studios core brand offers a broader range of storylines and genres than the traditional superhero-centric genre. Platinum believes this approach is maintained with Hollywood in mind, as the storylines offer the film industry fresh, high-concept brandable content as a complimentary alternative to traditional super hero storylines.
Over the next several years, Platinum Studios is working to become one of the leading independent comic book movie production producer for the entertainment industry. This includes all platforms such as film, television, direct-to-home, publishing, and digital media, creating merchandising vehicles through all retail product lines. This will allow Platinum Studios to maximize the potential and value of our owned content creator relationships and acquisitions, story development and character/franchise brand-building capabilities while keeping required capital investment relatively low.
Aspiring writers and artists nationwide are invited to submit their work to Platinum Studios in the search for the hottest comic book concept - the Comic Book Challenge. The elimination style contest in which fans vote on the new characters and concepts presented by talented newcomers, draws thousands of applications and has already produced two new comic book franchise properties, "Hero by Night" and "Gunplay (Gunplay has already been bought for a TV series). The winner's comic concept will be developed for print, online, film and TV. New and unpublished comic book creators can submit their ideas online.
Platinum Studios first feature film production, "Dylan Dog: Dead of Night," was released in theatres and is available on Blu-ray and DVD. The film is a co-production with Hyde Park Entertainment and Omnilab Media. The film stars Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), Sam Huntington (Being Human), Anita Briem (Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D) and Taye Diggs (Rent) and is directed by Kevin Munroe (TMNT). Platinum's next feature film, "Cowboys & Aliens," starring Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford, directed by Jon Favreau ("Iron Man 1 & 2"), executive produced by Steven Spielberg and produced by Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Scott Rosenberg has be released in theatres via DreamWorks and Universal Pictures with Paramount Pictures handling the international release of the picture. Blu-ray and DVD will be available in December 2011.
While other large comics-based libraries are already spoken for, Platinum Studios remains independent of major entertainment studio affiliation. Marvel was recently acquired by Disney for $4 Billion, and is the second major comic library to be acquired by a Hollywood studio. DC Comics, which is owned by Warner Bros., recently announced a newly-revamped business model, focusing on reaching deeper into DC's catalog of characters.
