Pacific Coast Nickel Corp is a Canadian based nickel and copper base mineral exploration company actively exploring properties in Canada and Uruguay. The Company has two properties at present and includes the Burwash property which is adjacent to the Wellgreen Mine, also a former nickel and copper producer. The Burwash property is 8 km from the Alaska Highway near Burwash, Yukon Territory. The Company has also established a wholly owned subsidiary in Uruguay where we have identified a number of prospective targets in addition the Company has expanded its scope to include precious metals and is currently reviewing a number of opportunities. BURWASH - YUKON
The 120 claim (2500 hectare) Burwash property is 100% owned by Strategic Metals Ltd. and has been optioned by Pacific Coast Nickel Corp. It is located in the Kluane Ranges of southwest Yukon, 8 km by all weather road from the Alaska Highway. All areas of exploration interest on the property are served by a network of four-wheel-drive roads.
The exploration target is nickel-copper-platinum group element (PGE) mineralization related to intrusions of the Late Triassic Kluane Mafic-Ultramafic Suite that were emplaced during a period of uplift and extension related to widespread basaltic volcanism.
A 1989 pre-feasibility study outlined a combined proven and probable reserve of 50 million tonnes grading 0.36% nickel, 0.35% copper, 0.54 g/t platinum and 0.34 g/t palladium (note: this calculation pre-dates the implementation of NI 43-101 and should not be relied upon). A unique characteristic of the Wellgreen deposit and other occurrences associated with the Quill Creek Mafic-Ultramafic Complex is the unusually high proportion of the rare PGEs. For example, a 9.8 m chip sample across the discovery showing at Wellgreen assayed 2.44% nickel, 2.07% copper, 0.94% cobalt, 2400 ppb platinum, 2200 ppb palladium, 1020 ppb gold, 560 ppb rhodium, 650 ppb ruthenium, 440 ppb osmium and 550 ppb iridium. A development Wellgreen property is the discovery of shear zone hosted mineralization in the footwall of the mafic- ultramafic complex that is distinguished by its exceptionally high PGE grades. For example a chip sample taken in 2004 from an excavator trench across a 1.2 m wide zone returned assays of 35.8 g/t platinum, 64.3 g/t palladium, 1.37 g/t rhodium and 3.4 g/t gold with only 0.10% nickel and 0.14% copper.
