I still have 5 more films to watch.
Top Gun
Tar
All Quiet on the Western Front
Women Talking
Avatar, The Way of Water - Do I need to watch the first Avatar before seeing this one?
Triangle of Sadness
Not a star studded cast but I liked it. I was never a big fan of cruises before watching this, but now I am really not a big fan.
As for the movie, I liked it, but I didn’t love it!
3.5/5.0
LOL....I was trying to recall it being in Hebrew?!!
Was it long? I thought it was just long enough and loved the message at the end. Was that supposed to be John Ford?? I can't recall.
BTW, I saw a similar movie recently about a Science fiction, special effects pioneer. Let me see if I can find the title. It was also surprisingly good movie.
Dang! Can't find it now. This is gonna eat up a bunch of my day looking for it.
So, I rented The Fabelmans On Demand and I started to watch it.
I didn’t realize that they would be speaking in Hebrew so I resigned myself to reading the subtitles. About 5 minutes in, it was bothering me that their mouths were not in sync with what I was hearing even though I didn’t understand Hebrew.
I was thinking that this is really too much work to just watch a movie.
I put it on pause and googled if there was and English version AND a Hebrew version but I didn’t see anything about a Hebrew version.
Now I was about 15 minutes into it and I remembered that when I rented it online there were two to choose from. I went back and looked again and voila! I rented the version that was in SPANISH!
I rented the English version and started from the beginning and I absolutely loved it!
Judd Hirsch was the best, although Michele Williams and Seth Rogan were good also.
Rate - 4.9/5
I would have given it a 5 but it was a little too long. I don’t have the attention span that I used to have.
okay cool, I'll check it out
You might like his ancestors better. I think 1883, then 1923 are far better shows.
I started Yellowstone. I'm thru 1.4
Not sure I like this John Dutton dude
We've been searching everywhere for something new to watch....recently settled on Jack Ryan on Amazon(?...Netflix??), wherever. On episode 4, and so far pretty good. However, I just can't get over seeing Jim Halpert running around fighting bad guys. Seems Dwight Schrute would have been more prepared for it.
We are fairly open to other suggestions.
BTW, best commercial during Superbowl, by far was the Breaking Bad one.
4.2 out of 5?!!!!
We found it to be depressing and didn't really go anywhere.
It was odd
The Menu
I don’t think it was nominated for any Oscars but it did get a few Golden Globe nominations.
Bizarre but it kept my attention.
2.9/5
I only started playing it because I tore a tendon in my left wrist and was on hiatus from golf.
Now, everything hurts when I do anything.
I did skip a pickleball tourney this weekend though. Just don't feel comfortable going after shots yet.
Geez Louise!
I think you need to find a new sport!
Was running to the net for the ball, suddenly I heard something that sounded like a melon hitting concrete. Must have blacked out for a second because I don't recall it.
I hit the concrete teeth first. Thought for sure I knocked out all my teeth. Got up and blood all over my lips and mouth.
I went home and couldn't close my mouth properly. Couldn't bite down because I guess misaligned my jaw? Had my dentist buddy grind down my two front teeth so I could close my mouth properly. He told me I might lose the teeth or they turn black, but so far they're just sore (how do your teeth hurt??)
When I fell, I held my racket, and the handle cracked my ribs.
Also, tore up my fingers on the concrete as I fell so now, all the fingers on my right hand are arthritic and hurting every day.
I'm supposed to play in a tournament this weekend, but I'm just afraid to be aggressive on balls.
BTW, about a month before that, I twisted my knee going after a ball and have been wearing a knee brace.
Tough sport.
What happened? A friend of mine fractured a rib playing
That's good.
Have I told you about my pickleball injury?
It's a brutal sport!
has NYC returned to normal? Are people going to the movies? Football games? Restaurants?
Well, I Don’t live in NYC so I don’t know what’s going on there.
I did go to see Funny Girl on Broadway in December and the theater was packed as was the restaurant but overall Times Square was not as robust as it usually is around the holidays.
I haven’t been in a movie theater since before COVID and I guess I am not alone because 2 out of the 3 theaters near me have closed. I actually prefer watching movies at home because if I don’t hear something correctly I can rewind and listen again. If it’s a movie like The Banshees of Inisheren I can put the closed caption on because Irishmen tawk funny!
My favorite restaurants seem to be doing well. They seem to always be packed on the weekends. A new restaurant just opened and I can’t wait to go but I will wait until the “newness” wears off and the crowd diminishes. It’s actually not new new. It’s a third location for a restaurant that has been in the county for a long time.
Watching the Jets and/or Giants the stadium seems packed.
Life is pretty much back to normal here except for the movie theaters.
They seem to be shooting films or tv shows more and more around here.
Today when I went to play Pickleball they were all over the place.
We watched the end of it last night. I got it. I just didn't like it at all. Something weird going on in the movie biz. Parasite, Squid Games, and now Everything, Everywhere All at once. All getting way more praise than they deserve.
Anyway, I've got another question for you......has NYC returned to normal? Are people going to the movies? Football games? Restaurants?
I listen to Howard Stern and it sounds like he hasn't left his apartment in years.
We finally agree!
I just watched Everything Everywhere All at Once and it was definitely weird.
I didn’t hate it, it I didn’t get it!
It seems really weird that it keeps getting nominated for bet picture awards.
So sad. It's the Greatest Story Ever Told.
I watched it again the other day. Still holds up.
The “plot” of Princess Bride wasn’t the problem. It was some of the actors that I didn’t like so I couldn’t get through the whole movie.
I'll be shocked if you like it. It's a lot like Princess Bride.....but with Asians.
That’s the next one on my list
I have it saved to watch, but right now, trying to get through "Everything, Everywhere all at once" first.
So far, a bit too weird for me.
Banshees of Inisherin
I may be partial because of my Irish roots. It was filmed in the county that my Grandfather was born.
Crazy Irish people
4.2/5
I went to see the movie Babylon the other day. Don't know where to start..
I liked it....I didn't like it...I liked it again....it ran too long....it got weird...it got weirder...in ended nostalgically.
Made me go watch the movie Singing In The Rain afterwards.
It also could be confused as a Tarantino movie or maybe a Chazelle movie....oh, just checked, it was a Chazelle movie. Well that explains the music anyway.
This is the type of movie Hollywood likes, everyone else walks out saying "huhhh?
The movie stuck with me. I'll give it 2.8 pickles, but may deserve higher if I ever figure it all out.
Anyone here watch 1883? The pre-prequel to Yellowstone?
Just watched the final episode. So well written. So much better than Yellowstone.
One of the better movies I've seen in a while.
Lots of Oscar buzz
Went to an actual theater for the first time in a while. Saw the Fabelmans. I'd give it 3.8 (out of 4) pickles. Very well done.
Still a scary movie coming out..
The trend is now to say instantly instead of suddenly

This is a song of unbridled joy.

LOL...when you said no violence, I was wondering if you fell asleep near the end.
I thought El Camino was better than expected, not having Walter White in it. Must have been some leftover scenes from Breaking Bad with Robert Forster in it.
I also watched Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and El Camino.
Since Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was a Quentin Tarantino film I expected violence but there wasn’t any.......until there was! Pretty good movie though.
As for El Camino I think it’s been too long since I watched Breaking Bad. I forgot a lot of stuff so I had some trouble following it.
I watched Saving Private Ryan a couple times this weekend. More excellenter.
I watched Hamilton over the weekend. Excellent excellent!
I was bored, so I saw City of Conquest, a James Cagney, Ann Sheridan
movie with lines quite passable.......
Anyway I do agree that Elia Kazan was one of the best directors
in cinema history......... years ago I knew one of his dog walkers, and was given a tour of his townhouse house, saw all the Oscars (On The Waterfront, Gentlemen's Agreement) two the his movies I liked the least (ha, always hated On The Waterfront which featured my favorite actor)......I never did meet Elia Kazan, but would have made the effort somehow if I had seen the movie City of Conquest. It happened that this small part guy in it was my favorite character, and it was to my great surprise that the character who had to make the most personality transitions for his role was Elia Kazan.
Well, based on your description..
I believe you're confusing that with Brokeback Mountain.
"Unbroken" the movie: I did not see it, as it would be a spoiler for the book which is 10 times better ( defy anyone who reviewed both to disagree).........The book is an impossible to surpass story ( wish I was wrong as love to see a better true diary of actual events) which if fictional could take take up to 100 episodes of spellbou8nding excitement.....yet it is all true and happened to just one man in more than one venues. Fascinating survivalist info added for free.
Yeah, but his was an awful southern accent.
As to James Bond with a Southern accent? Who knows.
I had trouble associating the remaining characters' accents, or lack there of, with the alleged location of the stately manor being in Massachusetts.
The movie does claim the family hadn't lived there all that long, so it wasn't their native territory, but that doesn't explain why nobody in the movie, including the local police, had the slightest trace of any accent one might hear in Massachusetts.
I willing use my suspension of disbelief to not be overly concerned, but don't know why they chose to name a location.
I watched Knives Out the second time with someone who hadn't seen it, so I guess I enjoyed watching their reactions.
Plus, it was fun to rewatch the characters stick it to each other along with each plot twist.
Hmmmm, I enjoyed Knives Out the first time, (although still can't figure why they used James Bond as a southern detective). Lots of twists and turns. Not sure I'd get the same effect the second time...unless I forget who dunnit.
I think Cliff Notes beat you to that market

A board to review, talk about, recommend your favorite movies, tv shows - reality and otherwise, actors, music, books, food, anything you feel like chatting about.
We like to use the pickle system around here, but feel free to rate as you see fit.
If you like the system, it goes as such
0 - 1....you would probably want to recommend to derf
1.01 - 2....better wait for HBO
2.01 - 3....worth a rental, maybe even a trip to the picture show
3.01 - 3.99....pretty much a must see, either in the theater or DVD.
4....WOW
