I appreciate your honesty and i feel the same with the exception that I am a conservative. Our political system is broken badly and has become an "Us against Them" war in which the only loser is Average Joe. Politicians are essentially royalty now with incumbents getting a "pass" in most cases.

It won't get better any time soon. We are divided now more than ever and finding middle ground has become impossible. I used to hate the back room deals and trade-offs made by politicians in the past but now I long for the return of those days.

I apologize as well for any comments I've made that were personal attacks. I definitely agree we are all in this together. We all need to concede some. Common sense should rule the conversation. I don't agree with all things liberal or progressive. I am truly an independent. Have voted both ways. To me it's about the individual person, the record they hold and the package they are selling. None of us imo should commit to either side. Think of how much harder our politicians would have to work if they had to literally win ever vote. This is how we ended up with so many dead beats in congress on both sides. People are like he's a dem so I'll vote for him or vice versa. I lean dems, but it's about timing not parties but take a serious look at all candidates during elections. Right now I just see solutions better to be handled by dems. That will change at some point for me I'm sure.

I saw the filming on the news channel long time ago of the convoys of trucks taking the weapons of mass destruction out when the US gave them 60 days notice of inspections to take place , now that was a real dumb thing to do , don't you think? well.. Posibly your friends points that he articulates with republican idealism is that you look at the evolution of the man and the evolution of society, govenment, culture and then you cross that with the current future view with global warming, the pending energy crisis, the new world exchanges, euro's etc.. etc....

the human raise is enivitably heading for one thing ... essentially some form of a World State and/or simply stronger enforced guidance from international comunities (u.n. etc..)

toppling dicators (preferably IMO from clasified operations), ensuring against genocide and policing human rights is a nesesary step to that. the argument for entry into Iraq can still be argued. I still probably see it as mostly a nessesary evil and a more open dipolomany and/or war with Syria, Iran etc... is probably eventaully a nessecity to. These things are needed for the pending world state / U.N.ish thing to begin to flourish. The quicker we bind together the quicker we can ensure the future prosperity of the human race.

Also amazes me how in these arguments rarely do people discus the filming of Iraqi Convoys entering these to be inspected sites the day before inpection, loading stuff, and leaving. While this would not stand in a court of law it is super very very suspicious.

very few conservatives argue that the motive for attacking iraq was not nessesary and we probably should never have went in the first place but the idea of after American making a mistake like that and now the lib congress trying to let innocents die and a country to fall into civil war is not the solution. Regardless if entry was right or wrong we now must ensure peace. If we do not then the blood of those civilians is on our hands.

You see the CBS story the other day on how the safe zones are truly "safe" people were asking to be filmed saying that they want the American People to see that it is working. People drinking tea, kids running in the street, busines flourishing and this was from a liberal media outlet. Safety must be ensured for civilians accross the world regardless of economic interests. Rwanda for example the U.N. shoudl not have allowed Genocide (levels higher then the Nazi Regime in wwII) and restored peace with full force.

Cheney reasserts al-Qaida-Saddam link Fri Apr 6, 8:08 AM ET



WASHINGTON - Vice President
Dick Cheney repeated his assertions of al-Qaida links to Saddam Hussein's Iraq on Thursday as the Defense Department released a report citing more evidence that the prewar government did not cooperate with the terrorist group.


Cheney contended that al-Qaida was operating in Iraq before the March 2003 invasion led by U.S. forces and that terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was leading the Iraqi branch of al-Qaida. Others in al-Qaida planned the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

"He took up residence there before we ever launched into Iraq, organized the al-Qaida operations inside Iraq before we even arrived on the scene and then, of course, led the charge for Iraq until we killed him last June," Cheney told radio host Rush Limbaugh during an interview. "As I say, they were present before we invaded Iraq."

However, a declassified Pentagon report released Thursday said that interrogations of the deposed Iraqi leader and two of his former aides as well as seized Iraqi documents confirmed that the terrorist organization and the Saddam government were not working together before the invasion.

The Sept. 11 Commission's 2004 report also found no evidence of a collaborative relationship between Saddam and Osama bin Laden's al-Qaida network during that period.

Sen. Carl Levin (news, bio, voting record), D-Mich., the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, had requested that the Pentagon declassify the report prepared by acting Defense Department Inspector General Thomas F. Gimble. In a statement Thursday, Levin said the declassified document showed why a Defense Department investigation had concluded that some Pentagon prewar intelligence work was inappropriate.

The report, which had been released in summary form in February, said that former Pentagon policy chief Douglas J. Feith had acted inappropriately but not illegally in reviewing prewar intelligence. Levin has claimed that Feith's intelligence assessment was wrong and distorted but nevertheless formed part of the basis on which President Bush took the country to war.

Although Feith's assessment in mid-2002 offered several examples of cooperation between Saddam's government and al-Qaida, the report said, the CIA had concluded months earlier that no evidence supported the existence of significant or long-term relationships.
