My $1.53 average looks ok today. But the market volatility is all over the place lately.

$HMY $1.43 is 52 wk low, The dollar is probably going to stay strong, and gold has been heading south for a bit, but it still is only a 1200 - 1350 (12%?) difference. Another little dip in gold and it might just hit. But just in case, I'm going to add a $1.58 bid to my $1.45...

...because, Pivots. And, who knows? Every week it seems like something new hits the fan. We are one debacle away from gold going back up.

Couple other gold mines trending down recently but this seems like some piece of info hidden in the 88 page report is dropping the price.

yes, I guess. If the dollar goes up against the Rand and gold goes up against the dollar it's the perfect storm for these companies.
Some people will never look at these companies because of politics of South
Africa. Yet this same politics would drive down the rand and cut costs.
As I said before, I like Hmy for Papeau New Guinea. One might look at drd and with huge PGM exposure the crashing Sbgl which was gold and is now 60%
platinum, palladium and owns the stillwater in Montana which they paid more than market cap of the stock now for. Value north of 2 billion in just United States although there is now 1.9 billion in debt also which gives investors real jitters.

Two things:

1. Further Financial problems world wide could lead to a flight to safety rally in the dollar vs the rand. Gold may increase more than the dollar and oil will be under pressure. This is the perfect scenario for hmy in the short term.


2a. The hidden factor in the very long term is Wafi Golpu. One of the largest copper/ gold discoveries on the planet and hmy still owns 50% after selling 50% to Newcrest back in 2007 for 525 million or 75% of market cap of hmy today.

2b. yes , it's going to cost 2 billion,but by 2020 -I think at current copper prices - Production would be 300k of gold at negative 2000 price counting the revenue copper. We have no idea how much more gold ,copper could be there. To be fair, there is also substantial risk that PNG government will do what their neighbors in Indonesia are doing to Freeport Mcmoran.
