Our world has changed, Ergo. I have no idea how long it will be before techs regain any momentum. I started writing covered calls at the beginning of 2001. It hasn't saved my butt, but it's salvaged a little of my pride :-S.

The world is coming to an end again. Gosh this is at least the third time in my life. The Government is run by an Idiot. Gosh I can think of more than three times that has happened. AT&T is doing a reverse split. At least that is a new one. I'm investing in used tim cans and strings. String theory is all the rage among the physicist there has to be a future in that.
The drought is getting worse and now they are telling me I am going to have to pay to listen to the radio. All the stocks I check have insiders selling. MSFT is on trial. I went to Compusa yesterday and they are now selling tvs. What the heck is going on?

"I'll bet you're a dollar short."
a dollar short, a dollar short!
I wish... I'm short as far as the eye can see!
Hey uf, why don't you see if the regulars will post just once a week over here. That would create a dramatic illusion.
Kat@mineforthisweek.pov
You're a day late.
Count your cash; I'll bet you're a dollar short.
But at least you registered early enough to get a free IH lifetime membership .
uf
Well the posts are starting to pour in here with SI down.
Over.

What overlap do you see in application that would lead to such an influence?

btw, I thought it best to move a serious discussion to the main board. Wouldn't want to get the mudges stirred up.
That's would be a good guess. Been hanging around here long?

Is that why I couldn't access it? <g>

SI is down this afternoon. Anyone else visiting the bomb shelter?

Yo Matt,
Just the admin (entrepreneur, big wheel) I was looking for.
If I wanna ask a stupid question about how to use this site what thread do I go to?
Like dumb questions like these ..
... like I know (cause ya give me a cue card) that we do things different here with HTML so instead of </B> we do <b, and instead of </I> we do <i, all of which seems rather unorthodox to me but I'm sure this is a good dumb reason.
Now to fix font spacing for a section of text I would normally do
column 1 column 2
row 2 row 2
We do. Just on some of the other threads.
Kat
When you Gorillas gonna wake up and starting hanging out in the iHub jungle?
Thanks Tom and Frank, I'll take a look at their list and see what stocks meet both sets of analysis. If they will satisfy G&K status AND be trade-able with AIM that would be very nice indeed.
Best regards, Tom
I see Uncle Frank beat me to the answer. You got a Founder-to-Founder answer.LOL.Talk about bouncing around the net. We're sure doing that these days.

>> Is there a current list of G&K Favorites?
The nearest equivalent would be the 2002 Gorilla and King Index, which contains g&ks with the broadest ownership among members of the forum.

>> How would they measure up to how I use Value Line to screen for stocks?
I'd be amazed if any of them came remotely close to meeting the Value Line criteria. They are all growth stocks, though most have stopped growing for the moment, and as a result, have sky high p/e, p/s, etc. by value investing standards.
uf
Hi Tom, Over on SI I remember there was some brief discussion about the difference between "selection" and "management" of equities. I always thought G&K has some pretty good ideas on the selection side.
Is there a current list of G&K Favorites? How would they measure up to how I use Value Line to screen for stocks?
Best regards, Tom
>>been potential for "cross fertilization" between this and the AIM thread.<<
True, wished I'd have thought of that back in 99-2000.
Lessons learned.
Tom
Hi Kat, I am glad to see a G&K thread here on IH. There has always been potential for "cross fertilization" between this and the AIM thread.
Best regards, Tom
Gee wizz DS. I just stumbled across your post. Where you been?
Kat
Matt,
I recently overheard you say (on SI "Computer Learning"):
<I>"The site speed should be screaming like a wild chicken with mad cow disease."</I>
It is FAST. Very FAST.
Good work.
Also: Beta Spell Checker looks pretty good.
The "text features" drive me a bit batty because they are different than HTML macros in my text editor (which I use for SI).

<< Has SI woke up yet from downtime this morning? >>
Off and on. Make that more off than on.
They evidently forgot to put all the spark plugs back in after the maintenance.

I hear ya.
Best,

Has SI woke up yet from downtime this morning?
It's been pretty much inaccessible today for me.
I can certainly sympathize.
Anybody home?

<< Another bad day for SI. I've gotten repeated server errors. >>
I got em too.
I run a diagnostic in the background so I can pretty easily tell whether it is them or me.

I read something similar in Fortune sometimes ago. I was very surprised at a couple who had a million but makes less money than my family. Somewhat forty to fifty thousand dollars at that time. Anyhow they saved money in every way. Mike Burke's gangs call it "cheap" I was very impressed what the couple did. I don't know I live in Bay Area and many things cost too much. Gas price in Pleasanton is 20 cents higher than other areas. A little less than S.F. My workplace is not far from here so price a little less around my workplace.
Also, another thing is to persuade my wife. If the "Millionair Next Door" is Bible, I bet my wife will read in Korean version but in English, heck no. She is not a spender but not much pays attention to wait for sales or turn off lights, etc. I am the one who replaced regular bulbs with fluorescent bulbs (Costco selling them with PG&E rebate at $7 for 5 bulbs), lowered waterheater temp, bought my daughter's elementary workbooks through Barnes&Nobles, etc. B&N gives free shipping if ordered more than two. That is hard part. I hope my children, who are two young now, learn from me not her for living in "cheap" ways-g-.
"Spending less than they make" is really important. Couple of years ago S.F. Chronicle articles run a story that a couple who made over 150,000 were in bankruptcy. Even they didn't own a house. Surprising.
p.s. I read couple of posts in Burke board that a few pulic pension funds of cities or counties are in deep trouble due to this down market. They must invest a lot in high tech. That means we cannot trust the pension funds too.
p.s.s. I hope my father had gave the book like you did. that is wishful thinking. But I don't blame him. I am very grateful that my father struggled to make end meets for his life but due to his sacrifice and devotion to children's education, we are now much better off.

>> I just teased you
You did a good job of it <lol>. Thanks for clearing that up, IK. When you showed interest in finding a guru, I became concerned about your prospects for long term financial health.
>> Whatever result, I try to teach my children how to manage money, balance checkbook, and accumulate wealth.
Both my children have graduated college, are well employed in their chosen professions, and are contributing to their company ira plans. That makes me feel very successful as a parent, which is the most difficult job of all. I gave them copies of The Millionaire Next Door to help them understand common factor among those who accumulate wealth - spending less than they make.
uf
I just teased you.
I try to learn as much as I can. If I am financially successful, it is very good. Whatever result, I try to teach my children how to manage money, balance checkbook, and accumulate wealth. We live in the capital society. I don't think school teach how to do it. Sometimes, it is so complexed that we (I) depend on specialists too much. Then we can lose basic common sense. I hope I learned those things when I was young. I learn many things in G&K and other boards. I don't know if I were young, I could like to learn like techreport. I don't know.
>> That is why we(I) need a guru or leader who can lead us or make life easier(g).
Since you've lurked my SI board, you should know better, IK. I'm neither qualified or interested in being anyone's guru or leader. I set up these boards to attract bright people that I can learn from. That's what I look for as a reward for my efforts, and so far it has been fair compensation.
uf
Dear Uncle. It is a good posts. Too many qcom posts at G&K. My small brain has difficulty to absorb all. That is why we(I) need a guru or leader who can lead us or make life easier(g).
When everything is settled down, it may be the right time to look at it.

You are correct. Bruce is a believer in a diversified portfolio, and the dynamics of the Gorilla Game do not apply to Wal-Mart, Phillip Moris, Home Depot, GE, etc.

UF I am just reading Bruce Brown's reply to OZ.

At one point, he mentioned Wal-Mart, Phillip Moris, Home Depot, GE, etc. I can't read it means G&K. However, is it possible that those companies can be one of G&K? I never thought about it except tech sector you know. Thanks in advance. You can post anywhere, I read both.
Howdy Unc. Yep, been awhile since I posted. Optimist? Ah, guess you read me at times over on SI.
Some of the options I follow went up 5-6 times and more today. Underlyings, up 15%+. Wow. Nice day.
Opportunities, even in this market.
Beautiful day here. Weather been great for a week or more.
Clear, mild temps, low humidity. Great!
About to hit the hammock and do a little pondering, right after I make a run on the 4 wheeler..... I'm still a kid at heart.
Hope you've been having good weather out there.

About time. It's been 8 months since you last posted on IHub, and we've got a shortage of optimists over here.

Thank you very much for your generous response.
When I read the posts on G&K, I can feel a lot of pains from the posters including the elder. The ones who started investing in G&K lists early on like before 1997 may have saved their principal and still make a profit. I can see that on some posts. However, I don't see many posts by the ones who invested heavily on the peak time, 1999-2000 summer. I don't know how other people deal with the loss if they hold stocks until now.
It looks like some elder left the board. I don't see much Uncle South or West recently. Do we have Uncle North? I liked LindyBill in the way he is saying. Funny you know. You might read already. It is an old one.
