North Dakota oil discovery called biggest in U.S.

Watch out, Texas! Get back California, Louisiana and Alaska! North Dakota and Montana are on track to knock all of you off your high horses as the oil capital of the United States.
According to a government report published today that has stunned the energy biz, a thin layer of rock known as the Bakken Shale, located a couple of miles under the Badlands, holds up 4.3 billion barrels of recoverable oil, making it the single largest oil reservoir that federal scientists have ever assessed.
At today’s price of $110 per barrel, that puts the value at $475 billion, give or take a few bill, or more than enough to make people think ND stands for North Dallas. Or maybe that’s New Dhabi.
The U.S. Geological Survey only assessed the Bakken Shale in U.S. boundaries, so the full extent of the find, which stretches north into the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba, will ultimately be larger. Already the estimate for “technically recoverable” oil – or that which is exploitable using current technology -- is 25 times higher than the last time the USGS surveyed the area, in 1995.
Around 105 million barrels of oil had been produced from the Bakken through the end of 2007, so the idea that energy producers may get 40 times that amount has brought a lot of attention to the area’s top drillers and leaseholders. Investors pushed stocks like EOG Resources and Continental Resources to all-time highs in the past two weeks in anticipation of the report’s publication. See my column today, "Dakota Oil: Persia on the Plains," for more investment angles.
The USGS said in in its press release that its new Bakken estimate is larger than all of its other oil assessments of the lower 48 states and is the largest "continuous" oil accumulation it has ever assessed. It said a "continuous" oil accumulation means that the oil resource is dispersed throughout a geologic formation rather than existing as discrete, localized occurrences. The next largest continuous oil accumulation in the U.S. is in the Austin Chalk of Texas and Louisiana, with an estimate of 1 billion barrels of technically recoverable oil.
Government geologists said they worked with North Dakota Geological Survey, a number of petroleum industry companies and independents, universities and other experts on the project. To hear a podcast of the USGS scientists Brenda Pierce and Rich Pollastro discussing their study, click here.

Watch the energy stocks closely- especially the penny plays. The markets are going to get a bit tougher.
Line pipe is expected to jump 30% in the very near future and fittings are expected to jump 10%.
Still waiting to hear what pump jacks, ALS pumps, PC pumps and stainless steel are going to do. They are going to jump- just a matter of how much.

No problem! Keep an eye out for RockWell on the London Exchange.
I was at their facility yesterday and the portal in Osage WY is producing some oil. They'll have it producing in the near future. They also have a direct market for their oil. It is being sent direct to Wyoming Refinery in Newcastle WY (just about 20 miles down the road from the portal).
Here is some info. that a friend of mine emailed me in regards to saving a little at the pump.
The temperature deal is very, very real. I know a guy that used to deliver bulk fuel to farmers. He had a small truck and would fill it very early in the morning and deliver in the afternoon. He told me it was amazing at how that added up in his favor!!
"I don't know what you guys are paying for gasoline....Here in California we are also paying higher, up to $3.50 per gallon. But my line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some tricks to get more of your money's worth for
every gallon. Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline where I work in San Jose , CA we deliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline. One day is diesel the next day is jet fuel, and gasoline, regular and premium grades. We have
34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 gallons.
Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the gasoline, when it gets
warmer gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening....your gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum
products plays an important role. A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.
When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumping on low speed, thereby minimizing the vapors
that are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some of the liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage
tank so you're getting less worth for your money.
One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is HALF FULL or HALF EMPTY. The reason for this is, the more gas you have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline
storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature compensated so
that every gallon is actually the exact amount.
Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up--most likely the gasoline is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally
settles on the bottom."
thanks highline makes alot of sense, i will have to remember that next time purchasing a oil and gas stock, and , that was obviosley ver looked in the the last stock pick, ,,, going to make some pizzas, so i can save up and get back in the game,, thanks appreciate ure help, anything comes across through me a line,,, good luck and god bless
I think the other obstacle that small companies come up against, when being public, is that they can't "hide" mistakes as easily.
For example- Anadarko recently put in what they call the "Big George" gas line in the Powder River Basin in WY. They bought the pipe from India (30" fusion bond and many, many miles of it). It came in on the rail and was "egg shaped" as opposed to round. That line will not stop leaking and will most likely never run gas through it.
It was a huge error. By trying to pinch pennies, they ended up spending dollars. Anadarko will be able to uitilize the line for some other things and will absorb the loss. Many investors will never even know about it.
It's also hard for small companies to market their oil. The big companies have a lot of pull and the little guy can get shoved off to the side.
Even if the pink sheet oil company is legit, has legit leases etc... there are many other factors that can play into it.
I think that a few things that many investors overlook and should ask of the company is: "who is going to buy the oil/gas, when will they start buying, how will you transport the oil/gas, who owns the pipeline, is everything set to put oil/gas into the pipeline etc.....?)
A legit company will be dealing with pipeline hookups, booster stations, pumping systems, measurement facilities etc....
Basically try and map the product (oil/gas) out from the ground to the end user. A legit company will have the answers for every step of it.
Hope this helps.
It's a tough deal to find an legit oil/gas play. The ones that I know of do not go public until they have been in business, turning a profit and are looking to get to the next level (so to speak).
For example:
I'm familiar with a guy that bought a field just north of Hardin, MT. It was a field that the big companies didn't deem worthy of developing. It is shallow "river bed" gas. Wells are averaging 900 ft. deep.
They can have a well in place within a couple days. Average cost is $100K/well. They expect each well to pay for itself in 90 days. They just went online selling gas in the last 2 weeks and some of the wells are producing much better than anticipated. They will drill 30-70 wells this year depending on several factors.
The company is 100% privately funded.
RockWell Petroleum that I've been posting about is another good example. They are growing leaps and bounds. They have stayed private and will go public soon. They were waiting to prove their technology a second time in Osage WY.
They will go public but will not be a penny stock by any means. They would stay private (profitably so) but they have the potential to grow into one of the largest companies in the country with the technology they have developed.
question highline, we see all these oil companies on the pinks and most are just starting out with no real production yet, ,, and that means they have not done the dilution deal,,,and the switcing of operators and leases,, and so on, ,, so how do u find a rel one with half a chance to make it to the big show,, i had bought kdkn a year ago and edward jones would not let me purchase shares anymore, for some reason or not i had 150k in shares at 18 cents,, , took them two days to tell me i couldnt trade it, and i end up in a rea pos, rgno,,with broken promises and ntg but tell me lies stories,,, ,, so give it to me straight where do u or how do u find a reputable, oil and gas , company,,,, good lucj and god bless
Things are changing rapidly in the oil business. Domestic growth is expected to level off dramatically. There will be exceptions and some "hot spots".
Gillette WY, E. MT and W. ND are a few of those hot spots. Lots of growth going in this year and leveling off the year is done.
A good majority of companies are looking at overseas developments as a means of growth and production. Mexico is also going to be a hot spot in oil development.
An acquaintance and myself are currently looking at several opportunities in material sourcing from China.
Steel pipe (line pipe) is expected to jump 20-25% in the very NEAR future. Pipe quotes are currently only being held for 5 days as opposed to the previous 30 day hold.
A few companies I work with are already trying to sort through used material to help save money.
The swings are going to be wild and there will be lots of money made and lost.
Keep an eye out for the IPO of RockWell Petroleum in the near future.
I'm going to be visiting with some of the RockWell people in the next few weeks and will see if they can say when they'll be going public.

Let me now what you think . gl to you and all. have agreat day.
I'll check it out this afternoon or Tues. morning.
It's a quiet board but hopefully it'll produce a couple good plays this yr. Glad to have ya!
Great Board HL, Ill be lurking and learning. EM
There is going to be some good plays this year. I was in Hardin Mt this morning on a location that is drilling river bed gas. Good to see Montana developing their energy. Lots of CBM in MT along with coal.
BZP BIG UPDATE !!
SAN FRANCISCO OIL CONFERENCE TUESDAY PRESENTATION LINK HERE !!!!!!!

I was in some meetings today about the price of oil is going to be on the rise. Gas at the pump is expected to hit $4/gallon and level off around $3.75.
It's going to happen and there should be some good opportunity.
SCU (Storm Cat) is looking like a good play for the first half of 2008.
Recent funding has been approved. They are very active in the Northern Part of the Powder River Basin. They should have a productive year.
http://www.rockwellpetroleum.com/ to go public in the first quarter maybe second of 2008. It won't be a penny play but is a fantastic new company.
They are recovering oil from fields that have been given up on. They are producing oil and making money. 2nd shaft is in place and will be producing soon. Once they prove their technique a second time- they should be huge!!
THANKS HIGHLINE APPRECIATE URE INFO HAVE A SAFE AND HEALTHY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR,, GOD BLESS,, ANYTHING COME UP WOULD U DROP ME A LINE, WOULD APPRECIATE THAT
I can't find anything out about RGNO yet. I checked with several people in Texas that run some big oil service supply and/or service companies. No one has credit on RGNO. That doesn't always indicate much but it does say that they aren't any sort of big player.
There are small companies that pay for their services or parts through roust a bout companies or other routes. It's a common practice but ends up costing a premium for services and supplies.
I made a few phone calls and am waiting for replies.
what exactly is coal bed methane and how does it work with oil and gas play, put in simple terms for dumb pizza flipper,, , jerry griggs says there changing direction, of company so , im guessing towrds caol bed methane ,, , im glad to hear u are a consultant for caolbed methane , , thanks highline i know ure busy, im sure would help alot of us investors ,,, god bless have ahppy new year

I thought you guys might be interested in checking out this oil and gas stock. The symbol is ENDE. The company is days away from announcing a major increase in production. They have just finished drilling their first horizontal well and sources on the ground believe the production increase is very substantial. Management expected between a 500% and 1200% increase in daily production! We are waiting for the news any day now! The company website is www.endevcoinc.com.
take care and happy new year

I had a pm asking about my opinion on this video (I work in the CBM industry in Gillette WY).
I have a busy couple weeks but will work on it as much as I can once I get a lay out in mind.
What would you guys like in the ibox?
A general board like this should be a good place to get together to find flaws in companies and some good potential in others. I work as a consultant in the oil/gas business- mainly in coal bed methane- and have many contacts.
I can't always find out about a new company but if it's a legit operation that has been in business for awhile- I can usually get some info.
It's a ways out yet but watch for RockWell (one word) Petroleum when they go public on the London exchange in the first or 2nd quarter of 2008.
The company has the backing, good employees and are accumulating several new fields. I've been on their Greybull and Osage facility and it's pretty amazing things they are doing.
http://www.rockwellpetroleum.com/
Got a tip on this one last summer and couldn't get in before the run. Have some wells off of Galveston, TX and supposed to start 3d seismic survey off of Newfoundland this month. Also plan on doing rig refurbishing there too. I think it's a good one, but seems to need some news to move or is some ways off. Thanks
Goldman Sachs has been getting active in several different angles in the energy business. The also own McJunkin which bought out Redman Supply and Midway Supply making them a serious player in the oil field supply business. There is also several alliances that go along with those mergers. Will do some checking into that play.
HI EVERYONE HAVE NOT HAD A CHANCE TO CHECK THE FEW STOCKS THAT WERE LISTED IF ANYONE HAS ANY COMMENTS OR PICKS PUT THEM ON THE BOARD,, WHATS THE FLOAT LIKE EEE,, OIL TRADING OVER 90 BUX NOWS THE TIME FOR SOME THESE OIL PLAYS TO MAKE ANOTHER RUN,,, ANYONE LIKE HMGP,, OR RGNO,,,, HOPE EVERYONE HAD GREAT WEEKEND,, GOD BLESS AND MAAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU
Does anyone know anything about a company Tekoil(TKGN)? They have backing from Goldman Sachs for exploration off of Newfoundland. Stock was at $2.50 this sumer, now treading between .40 & .55. TIA
My love for you never dies though Mac. My love for RGNO never dies. I believe the company is on the ground floor of doing some great things. My only complaint is the lack of communication.
well mil, i see you are doing your roger clemen's act again on rgno.you know love/hate..i wonder what your take will be this week ??.j/k..lol
RGNO is a good opportunity to buy in on the ground floor of a US based Oil and Gas Company. Regions is selling oil. And this is just the report showing its sales to one buyer. In the past we were told they were selling to multiple buyers like Scissoral, Sunoco, etc. And I dont believe this report includes any sales of natural gas which might be occurring from the sale of such wells as the War Dawg and the Guadalcanal. And this report only includes sales in one geographic area. They could be selling from wells at other locations as well that are outside this geographic area. And they probably own other wells outside this area that are operated by third parties that we are not aware of.

Information is becoming available. At least the purchasers report sales number for tax purposes.

I wasn't going to post this, as I had a "knee-jerk" reaction to the numbers, but then I had to remember that I don't know if this is the big picture, and Marshall Island (Wells George/Pipco) was mentioned earlier today.
Is this the only company that they are selling to? Maybe/Maybe not.
Is this a full month of production? Maybe/Maybe not. Since this is from September sales, and it is their first month of showing sales to this company for the IWO lease, I'm going to wait till the first of December and look at the sales for October to see if the numbers are increasing as that should be a full month of sales.
What I can say for certain is that oil is finally being sold.
Link to the EEE board- insider buying going on. The filing links are on the EEE board.
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/board.asp?board_id=9860
Evergreen Energy (EEE) is looking like a good possibility- picked a few nice blocks on Fri.
ok this board need to get revived,,,,, let see some of youre stock picks for up and coming weeks,,with all the focus on oil and gas , and prices sky rocketing, should be some real money making stocks,, i like the dark horse RGNO,, TO FINNALY PRINT SOME PR NEWS THAT WILL HELP AND STABILIZE STOCK PRICE HAVE BEEN IN SINCE 8 MONTHS, AND RT NOW WE ON SPIRAL DOWNFALL, BUT ONE QUICK PR WITH NUMBERS AND CLARIFICATION WE COULD BE AND 10 CENTS,,, ,,, OK PLEASE POST URE PICKS,
Activity is starting to happen in Montana- big projects from Sheridan WY to Billing MT in the works. Some good opportunities may come together.
