The_songwriter/singer_of_the_1963_duet_hit, "Hey Paula" died a few days ago; the obit in the Boston Globe (https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/08/31/metro/ray-hildebrand-paul-hitmakers-paul-paula-dies-82/ ) has some stuff I didn't know about the song came to be. I always thought it was a dumb song, but it was a very big hit.

Here's the thing. Winwood was 16 or 17 yrs. old when he wrote this. In those days, street slang for heroin was 'boy' and for cocaine was 'girl'. High heel boy refers to a mixture of heroin and coke, commonly called a speedball. The 'low spark' is a description of the physical feeling brought on by injecting the speedball.
