American Public Education, Inc. is a provider of online postsecondary education focusing on the needs of the military and public service communities. It operates through two universities, American Military University (AMU) and American Public University (APU), which together constitute the American Public University System. The universities share a common faculty and curriculum, which includes 76 degree programs and 51 certificate programs in disciplines related to national security, military studies, intelligence, homeland security, criminal justice, technology, business administration, education and liberal arts. As of December 31, 2009, the Company served over 63,700 students living in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and many foreign countries. The subsidiary of the Company is American Public University System, Inc. As of December 31, 2009, the Company had approximately 210 full-time and over 770 adjunct faculties.
