I'll share a story with you and the board.
Today I went food shopping at a small Russian grocery store; a lot of home-prepared style food too.
It was really cold and I saw a Starbucks, as I was going to catch the trolley home. Never went into one, so I gave it a try.
The Starbucks was very roomy, sunny, and I felt out of place without a tablet and/or something sticking in my ear, and I totally looked out of place with a knapsack and a freezer bag full of groceries. The place was full with complacent people complacent. One guy was a holdover from the 1960s intently reading his book.
No one had an idea, I think, of what lies around the bend with our $211 trillion fiscal gap. Are these people preparing for the future like me? Do they know that we have to pay the piper for all of the past, current and future fiat money? Most likely NOT.
A few days ago I ordered two dwarf pear trees, six blackberry bushes, 30 asparagus crowns, and I have a LOT of root crop seeds starting in my attic using natural light and the heat contained in a small bathroom. I'm experimenting to see how I could grow seeds if the grid collapsed.
I'll probably return to the Starbucks and get another cup of decaf Pike [whatever that is], the medium cup was $2.06, and tasted great. But the real taste is a taste of preparing for the future. I'm just part way there, but a long way than most.
Lastly, I will be buying much more locally. The butcher, the baker, and candlestick maker are now in my DNA.
